Kill the Time

My First Poem

Haim Kadman
I've written this solitary poem in French; and that happened during the one and only time in my life when I was unemployed; having returned from service in West Africa and it does expresses such feelings. This time of unemployment was a turning point in my life, in which I've decided to draw and paint and started to write, thus I don't regret it at all.

I got a new job after some six months, and this poem was written about that time, when I felt that my working day was a waste of time forced upon me, as I had to earn a living - while I waited impatiently to get back to the unfinished painting on my easle.

Tuer le temps

De temps en temps

J'essaie a tuer le temps

et chaque matin

qaund je me revielle en temps'

sur que j'ai reussi a tuer le temps

Je comprend que me'il faut

encore une fois au moins

a tuer le temps

To kill the time

From time to time

I try to kill the time

And every morning

When I wake up on time

Sure that I've succeeded

to kill the time

I understand that I'll need

One more time at least

To kill the time.

It seems to me a bit foolish now, after all I enjoy work and having realized that I'm focused and ready to do what I wish to do, in writing and drawing and painting, as working has become a kind of warm-up for me. It's of course personal, there are many who are able to express themselves right away with ease and fluency, and at rather a very young age, like Jane Austen for example who wrote master pieces at her early twenties - well I'm not so lucky, nevertheless I've nothing to complain of.
