Killed in a Crime of Passion

Christy Whitmore Killed by Boyfriend

Randy Inman
A crime of passion that is what the murder of Christy Whitmore in Catawba County, North Carolina was called. I happened to know Christy Whitmore though not well, and I am tired of hearing "Crime of passion" when somebody is murdered
.

Christy Whitmore's parents bought a home from my parents some years ago. While not friends my family and her family were friendly and always spoke when we would run into each other somewhere. My daughter is friends with and a classmate of Christy's son.

This is the 2nd murder in Catawba County that has touched my family in recent years. Both were needless and left nothing but sorrow and heartbreak behind for the families of the victims.

Out of respect to the family I won't go into gruesome details about Christy Whitmore's murder. This article isn't about that. This article is to point out that violence in this country especially against women must stop.

Christy Whitmore was a nurse and worked with my Aunt and Uncle's special needs child, among others. She did her job well and with a smile by all accounts. She did not deserve to be murdered by a man in a "crime of passion."

Crimes of passion are really crimes of rage, usually against women by men they once loved and trusted. America has turned a blind eye to violent crime for too long. It is time to stop kissing up to criminals because of their poor backgrounds. Lots of people grow up in bad situations but don't go out and commit crimes.

Catawba County has been rocked by this murder and many residents I spoke to, are clamoring for harsher penalties for violent crimes. It is too late to save Christy Whitmore but it isn't too late to start locking people up when the commit crimes, and maybe prevent more murders farther down the line.

Men need to learn to control the urge to hit and worse kill the ones they supposedly love. It is said that the ultimate showing of love to your kids is to love their mother. I don't know what will curb the violence towards women in the United States. I just wish it had been curbed before Christy Whitmore lost her life. Maybe we can do something to keep other women from being killed in a crime of passion.

And it ought to be "Guilty" for reasons of insanity, not "Innocent", as well. Good article. Thanks.

Always a shame when innocents lose their lives, especially to murder.

You are right Crimes of Passion are Crimes of Rage. I never thought about it that way before.

Great points, Randy! Sorry to hear you've been personally hit by this. "Crime of passion" has also been used to excuse the Fort Hood shooter's terrorism. It's a terribly misused term.

Perhaps we should 'passionately' execute the coward who killed this person, this woman, this mother, daughter, friend. You are right this has to stop.

I never understood these things. There are 6 billion people on earth. Why would anyone get so crazy about one person that they'd be motivated to kill (rhetorical).

So sorry about this Randy - sad horrible situation.

    Murder is so unnecessary

I've never liked that term either. I'm sorry for the loss of your friend, Randy. I can tell although you didn't know her well, her death really upset you.

Yea Randy, it tends to make no sense at all. You can tell it is not US making up defintions for things out there.
