I recently noticed Kind Fruit & Nut Bars in the organic aisle at my local grocery store. I'd never heard of the Kind Bars before but the wrapper was partially c-thru and the fruit bars looked tasty, so I decided to give one a try. I really love dates, so I bought the Walnut & Date flavor for $1.99.
The Kind Walnut and Date Bar comes in a cute plastic wrapper that had purple, yellow, blue, orange, and green striped edges. The Kind label happily declared that the Walnut and Date Fruit and Nut Bar was all natural, wheat, dairy, and gluten free, non GMO, and didn't contain sulphur dioxide.
I also noticed that Kind donates 5% of their profits to the Peace Works Foundation, which fosters co-existence in the world, so I liked this company before I even tried their product.
Kind's Fruit & Nut bars are made in Australia. The Walnut & Date bar contains walnuts, dates, honey, glucose, raisins, puffed rice, linseed, chicory fiber, and soy lecithin.
One 4oz Walnut and Date Bar bar has 150 calories, 60 fat calories, and 7g of total fat. It contains 1g of saturated fat, and 0mg of cholesterol. It also contains 40mg of sodium, 22g of carbs, 3g of fiber, 17g of sugar, and 2g of protein.
This Kind bar is a dark purple shade, it looked like mashed dates, huge chunks of walnuts, and a small scattering of puffed rice were mixed together and molded into a thin rectangle.
When I first bit into it the sweet fruity flavor of the dates hit my taste buds, but then the walnuts became noticeable. For a second I hated it, but then I realized that the dry, nutty flavor of the walnuts really balanced out the moist and fruity quality of the dates and raisins.
A lot of companies that make fruit bars with dates usually add cashews or pecans, but I thought the walnuts were a better choice. They really work well with the dates and give it a unique taste. The puffed rice and linseed were also good choices, giving this Kind Fruit & Nut bar a bit of added crunch and texture so it wasn't too soft and mushy.
In the End...
I have nothing bad to say about the Kind Fruit & Nut Bar in Walnut & Date, except that I wish it was twice it's actual size. The flavors were ridiculously fresh, unique, and all tasted great together. I'd definitely buy it again. 4.5 out of 5 stars.
