A. Hermitt
At the preschool level, homeschooled children need to continue developing emotional and interpersonal skills, fine motor skills and show learning readiness. The next step, Kindergarten, is a little more involved for the homeschooled student, but is still a natural extension of everyday life. Everyday life and a few free websites are all you need to homeschool a Kindergartner.

Health and Safety skills taught in traditional schools are naturally taught at home and homeschoolers pick up this information without trying. Some of these things include personal hygiene and grooming, nutrition, dental care, parts of the body, and physical fitness.

Social Studies can also be taught without much fuss to Kindergarten homeschoolers. These lessons should include holidays, traditions and customs, different cultures, work and jobs, safety rules and signs, family, home, school, and community. If you need help with any of these lessons go to internet4classrooms.com.

Science for Kindergarten homeschoolers can be taught n walks in the park and trips to the zoo and children's museum. Homeschooled Kindergartens should learn to observer every day things, recognize common plants and animals, and be able to classify living things. They must recognize farm and zoo animals as well. The children should understand the sun as an energy source, weather and seasons, temperature and light. They can do simple experiments and learn about the earth, moon, and stars. For some rainy-day on line help with these subjects visit Iknowthat.com for some interactive free lessons and check out these free science songs at acme.com.

Language arts for Kindergartens is alot more involved than it used to be. These days, may kindergartens are reading by Christmas and writing by the end of the school year. World book encyclopedia suggests you start with reading readiness such as basic phonics, listening to literature, role play, and similar exercises. To get them reading by the end of the year, you can use on line website such as learntoreadfree.com , and foniks.org. You will also want to teach beginning writing. You can find worksheets for free at firstschool.ws and education.com.

Teaching your homeschooled kindergarten math does not need to be intimidating. At this level, students learn to count, sequence, recognize sets, estimate, learn shapes, and about the calendar and clock. They also learn basic money skills and graphing. To help you teach math to your kindergarten try using Kidzone.com math, aaamath for Kindergarten, and Hubbardscupboard.org.

If you want to find one web based program that covers all areas of Kindergarten, you can use Time4learning for or BrainpopJr.com. Both websites have a low monthly subscription.
