Kindergarten's Child

America's Future

Michael K. Miller
The 53rd President of the United States may be starting kindergarten this August or September. Certainly, some subsequent President is beginning kindergarten in the fall of 2010.

With the first kindergarten step this fall, millions of other American children will commence their respective 1,000 mile journey to a destiny, to a purpose unique. From Bangor to Miami Beach to San Diego to Seattle, America's Future - the Kindergarten Child - will begin the star trek that will launch them into a galaxy bounded only by their imagination and tenacity.

Teacher unions and text book publishers, university schools of education and legislators will all push and pull on that Kindergarten Child's trajectory. Nothing can deflect or down the Kindergarten's Child mission well-launched and guided by a parent's love and nurturing care.

A hop, skip, and jump ago, I walked my future president down an early morning driveway for her first ride on destiny's school bus.

First Step

a Yellow smudge emerged from Life's fog,
framed by Timed oaks n maples greened;
Came toward us - to her...

"daddyiloveyou" hug & "iloveyoumore" kiss
circled her curly curiosity and blonde wonder
before taking flight off into too early fall leaves...

Up steps, shy smile
whisking past driver's 'Mornin' missy'...
door closing...

Time holding her breath. then exhaling ...
perky grin, waves all over the back window...

Blur... Fade.. Gone.

Afternoon seemed an eternity away.

In the breath-taking, formative reality of 2010's Kindergarten's Child, eternity - America's Future, is only an "afternoon" away.

Well done in this important social commentary. I wonder if the U.S. is not already under the judgment of God Michael.

This is awesome and inspirational. Thanks for sharing! I like the way you write and I'm going to subscribe to you. We have 7 little ones and I think even the little things we do for them is important in building the background for their lives.

What a sweet poem. I never had to do that, since we homeschooled. But they loved to play "riding the bus." They'd go down the driveway with a little lunch box in their hands, and pretend they'd just gotten off the bus, then walk in to the house for school. So cute. So long ago...

Not sure that I would want to see my kid in the White House with all I know about the treachery and lying that goes on. Good article. Thanks for sharing

Unless you become as little children, none will enter the Kingdom, YES, I would like to see them in the White House today and in all of Congress for that matter. Inspirational Michael! :-)
