Kinesed Causes Xerostomia/Dry Mouth/Cotton Mouth

In the world of medicine, the benefits of taking any medication must be balanced against its risks or side effects. Kinesed is one of these medications and is prescribed by doctors to relieve abdominal cramps and reduce the amount of acid produced by the stomach. Kinesed is also known as Hyoscyamine with Atropine, Scopolamine and Phenobarbital. Although Kinesed can bring much needed relief to patients experiencing intestinal problems, it does have possible side effects. The most notable of these side effects is dry mouth.

Dry mouth, also known as cotton mouth, can be very uncomfortable. Xerostomia (the technical term for dry mouth) is a reduction in the amount of saliva produced by the salivary glands. In the short term, Xerostomia can cause discomfort and even bad breath. If the cotton mouth or dry mouth is ongoing, it can lead to more severe problems, such as increased tooth decay and gingivitis.

When taking Kinesed, dry mouth can be one of the various side effects. This is a pretty common side effect for stomach medications that regulate stomach acid and fluid levels. Other drugs which help to regulate stomach acid such as Anaspaz and Donnatal also produce similar results. That's because these drugs use a common ingredient known as Hyoscyamine.

While not the only stomach calmer on the market, Hyoscyamine is used for its ability to block the action of acetylcholine at parasympathetic sites in smooth muscle and salivary glands. In English, that means it helps to shut down acid and liquid production. While larger doses of this drug can cause dizziness, hallucinations, spasms and death, in low doses it seems to serve as a shut off valve for low-level chemical production.

Hyoscyamine has been used for its effects on the human body for centuries, but not for the reasons modern science generally applies it. As it turns out, Hyoscyamine is found in Deadly Nightshade and poisonous Mandrake root. While in very low does these products can have a positive effect, they have been known to kill people when taken in large doses.

Patients taking their prescribed dose of Kinesed have nothing to fear from these poisonous properties. The amount of active Hyoscyamine is extremely regulated in Kinesed, and it has been applied in a number of products. At its core, Hyoscyamine is a relaxant that can help to counter stomach pain, heart pains from acid reflux and general stomach cramping. If you think that Kinesed is right for you but are concerned about the side effects (especially the dry mouth), consult your doctor to see if Kinesed is right for you and to get recommendations on how to handle Xerostomia.
