King Cobra L4V-M Driver Review

Cobra Golf has come out with not only a new hybrid and irons for this upcoming golf season, but has recently released a new series of drivers, the L4V.

This driver is designed to be forgiving and long period. The club head is 460cc, the maximum allowed by the rules of golf. The COR is also maxed out as is the MOI. The one design feature here that is also maxed out that everyone notices is the dimensions of this beast! It is 5" from front to back! This moves so much weight around to the rear of the club and perimeter, its no wonder why this driver takes off on a high launch angle!

While the L4V series has 3 models to fit each type of golfer, I am reviewing the L4V-M 10.5*, 45" Stiff Shaft.

Cobra prides itself on its "Speed Tuning" fitting system, which basically pairs the 3 head styles in this series with the appropriate loft and shaft combo to suit a wide ranger of golfers. The M model is geared for the better player with a slower club head speed. The face on the driver is 1-2 degrees closed, the head is a little more shallow than the X and right on par with the F model to aid in getting the ball airborne and the shaft is your standard stiff shaft and weights only 52 grams! It is designed for those who swing the club between 76-97 mph. Cobra also rates it for those of you who do not know your swing speed by saying it can be used by those who hit the ball between 210-250 yards.

Like the X and F models, it has a very loud, metallic bang to the club, but once I picked up the ball in the air, I decided to just mute out the obnoxious sound. Why? Because I killed the thing! It like the X flew about 10 yards deeper than my current driver, and on a much better higher flight. Working the ball with this club was hard to do, that is unless you want to only hit big hooks! The closed face angle all but ensures that the ball will not go right. Even trying everything I knew I was still only able to get the ball to cut about 5 yards. I also noticed that the shaft is just a little weaker than in the X model. Although they are both stiff, the M plays just a little weaker and when I tried to go after one, I hit a few very high hooks. Like the X and F, hitting it low is out of the question, but with the way balls and clubs are designed now, you don't need to hit any wind cheaters anymore!

This is an overall great driver designed for the mid handicap player with a slower club head speed. It comes in a Regular and Stiff flex and is available in 10.5* and 12*. I will review the other two models in the L4V lineup later today! I do suggest that this be used for Seniors, and Ladies. It is a great club for those who struggle to get the ball airborne and will allow you to get more distance from greater carry.

I give this club an A+ in design and function. The look and sound take a little getting used to, but trust me, the end justifies the means with this beast!
