King of Our House - Pumpkin

Janice Meyer
We have already heard about Annie and how sweet she is and everything about her - she is precious. Now it is time to hear a little about our oldest cat, Pumpkin, usually called "Punkin."

Pumpkin is a beautiful cream and orange tabby male cat, who thinks he is king of the house. Whenever he wants to sleep, or whenever he wants to eat, that is supposed to be the time he should be able to do that. He loves to sleep on my bed and lay close by my side, which is rather crowding for me. Pumpkin is a large cat weighing in at close to 20 pounds who takes up a lot of space on the bed.

Pumpkin also can open doors on the kitchen cabinets. He stands upright and places his paws over the top of the door and grips it; then he proceeds to walk backwards and pull it open. If a drawer is left open, he will crawl inside and take a nap on whatever is in that drawer, especially if it contains soft fabrics.

This cat, Pumpkin, is quite devoted to the man of the house, my husband Norman. At every meal, Pumpkin takes his place next to Norman's chair and often he will lie down there on his back and fake sleep. He shuts his eyes as if to say, "Am I not cute?" Also, he gets awful upset if Norman coughs or sneezes, and will begin to meow as if he wants someone to come and see what is wrong with his master.

Sometimes Pumpkin likes to antagonize Annie and she will begin to howl. At that point, I yell at him to leave Annie alone. He is a typical male in spite of being neutered. Pumpkin has large golden eyes and a nice furry tabby coat with the perfect markings on his forehead.

We take both cats to the veterinarian at least once a year for shots and examinations to try and keep them well and happy.

Pumpkin is now twelve years of age and heading for thirteen in January 2011. Outside of one health problem, he is doing quite well.
