Come for the Story
Every year there is a crisis of some sort that befalls the realm and some part of the day is spent with the members of the core group of Richard's court straightening out the plot. One thing that should never be missed is the musical rendition. It is usually a take off on a Broadway number and generally has modern political overtones to it. The humor is almost guaranteed to be PG-13. As one of my former favorite acts, the Singing Executioners used to say during their act, "If your kids get our jokes, don't blame us." While they are no longer working in the realm the words still ring true. Many of the core stories of the realm are not child friendly even though they are incredibly fun for adults.
Take Children to the Child Friendly Areas
There are many child friendly areas at the Faire. Designated areas for children are labeled on the map and animal and other acts are child friendly. However, do research the rest of the Faire before bringing your children and understand where you wish to take them. Some parents are upset because they were not aware that this is medieval humor. Others knew from past experience but before coming did not think of how it would impact their children and become frustrated and torn because they wish to enjoy their favorite acts but not all of them are best suited for children. This is something to consider and work out before coming to the Faire. The schedule is posted online and it is possible to consider the best options for bringing children or choosing alternate arrangements should you wish this to be an adult experience.
Plan your Day
There are many exciting acts to see and events that occur during the day. Some happen more frequently than others. You can access a schedule online or get one when you arrive at the Faire. If there are specific acts or events you wish to see it is best to determine a time to see those and work in other day's activities around those events. Time has a way of getting away from you and before you know it you have missed the musical, the joust, or another favorite act for the year. When looking on the website do check for coupons. There are often deals online and newspapers and others offer discounts as well. If taking a group these discounts can help offset the costs. The current cost for adults is $26, children 5-11 pay $15, and children under 5 can enter the Faire for free.
Come to Carver and enjoy the beauty of fall and the entertainment of King Richard's Faire.
