Amazing new findings about the mysterious Egyptian
pharaoh, King Tutankhamun, have been made using science. The years of DNA testing and CT scans on the remains of "King Tut" have yielded much information about the pharaoh.

The study has shown that King Tutankhamun was a frail teenager who most likely needed canes to walk. He died at the young age of 19 years old and the cause of death was most likely a caused by a leg injury that was complicated by bone disease and a bout of malaria.

Zahi Hawass from Egypt's Supreme Council of Antiquities completed a two year study and his findings have shed new light on the pharaoh. This mummy has captured curiosity of the world since its discovery in 1922 by Howard Carter, a British Archeologist. Old theories have been ruled out and the new findings are scientifically sound.

The study took years to finish because King Tutankhamun suffered from multiple disorders, this young king was not well at all. The research revealed that the young king had a club foot and a cleft palate. The research also suggested that his parents were siblings, brother and sister.

It had been theorized up until this study, that the king had
gynecomastia (breast development in males) and Marfan syndrome ( a disease that causes softening of connective tissues rendering the person with less support from their joints and body structure.) These two disorders were ruled out.

Theories of long standing foul play around the death of King Tutankhamun were also shown to be not likely in this study. The remains have a hole in the skull that led many scientists to believe he died from a blow to the head. The research suggests this hole came from deterioration after the death of the pharaoh.

When the Tomb of King Tut was discovered, there was a wealth of jewels buried in with the mummified remains. This including a solid gold death mask with lapis and precious stones that is probably the most recognized world wide from all the pictures that have circulated of this piece.

The Discovery Channel will air a two day documentary on these new findings about King Tutankhamun. The first segment will air on Sunday Feb. 21 and the second on Monday Feb. 22.

The famous King Tut was a sickly teen who had bone disease, cleft pallet and a club foot. Due to his bone disorders, he most likely walked with a cane. The cause of his death was most likely a leg injury complicated by malaria and his other disorders. The young pharaoh died at 19 years old and was most likely the son of parents who were brother and sister.

well, when your parents are siblings, the offspring are bound to be sick. This was very interesting.

That is fascinating, and I do like the Discovery documentaries with Zahi Hawass. There are so many new discoveries each year, I just wish they could unravel the even older stories waiting in what is now Iraq.
