Sometimes eating at home just doesn't cut it for me. I need something else, something different.
The Kirkwood Food Court in Wilmington, Delaware is that place that I can go to and fill up on a variety of different foods. It has five different restaurants under one roof, ranging from a pizza place to a chili parlor. Probably my absolute favorite item on there menu is a steal: a $5 large cheese pizza with your choice of one topping. Five bucks for a large pizza? Unheard of!
You may be thinking since it's cheap, it doesn't taste good. You'd be wrong if you were thinking that. Picking up this nice and hot pizza with some of the best tasting dough, melted mozzarella cheese, and amazingly delicious sauce makes my mouth water. Even with no toppings, this pizza is very good. Plus, if you have some left over, you can easily heat it up in the toaster oven and it tastes just as good as it did when it was fresh.
What really makes the Kirkwood Food Court different is their selection of Bombs. No, this place does not sell explosives; it is a kind of sandwich.
The Bomb is about a foot long, if not an inch or two longer, and has pretty much an entire meal on one sandwich. In the roll you will find chicken tenders, mozzarella sticks, French fries, provolone cheese, blue cheese dressing, and hot sauce. The roll is nicely toasted to provide a crunchy feel to it, and not make it soggy.
After reading that paragraph, you might be thinking it sounds absolutely disgusting. Not even close.
Although instead of The Bomb, I usually buy the Malcolm Bomb. It's the same exact thing only with ranch dressing instead of blue cheese. What's even better is that the Food Court offers about 30 different Bombs. Each one of them is different in some way, but holds the basic idea behind the sandwich (chicken fingers, fries, and mozzarella sticks).
The newest one I tried was the Hermann bomb; containing chicken tenders, fries, mozzarella sticks, their amazing Cincinnati chili, a touch of mild sauce, and chili cheese.
They also offer wings, gyros, chili (as just stated), and other assorted subs. I have not tried the gyros yet, but everything else just listed is very good.
The actual interior of the Food Court is nothing to brag about. But then again, it's one of those places where you just take your food home. There are tables to sit at if you so desire, but I would not call this a restaurant.
Overall, with a really friendly staff and great tasting food, the Kirkwood Food Court cannot be beat. If you're ever in Delaware, I definitely suggest checking them out. They will appreciate your business and your stomach will thank you!
