Kirkwood Southern Style Chicken Breast

Chen Salis
About every other month I make a trip to Lancaster, Ohio to shop at Aldi's for groceries. Last month while completing my shopping I ran across Kirkwood Southern Style chicken breasts in a large, nearly 3 pound package of boneless, skinless, white meat, breaded chicken fillets for a good price of $5.99. I thought these would be a fast and delicious meal option for when we are in a hurry. In this review I will share my thoughts about this Aldi brand product in an effort to help other consumers make an informed buying decision.

I liked that each frozen bag of Chicken fillets contained from 8 to 10 generous sized wheat meat chicken fillets. For under $6 that is a pretty impressive deal. I liked that these chicken fillets are all white meat and they are ready to cook, in the oven, microwaves, pan fried or deep fried. Each fillet contains 230 calories, which is not too bad when you consider the generous size of each fillet. The Kirkwood brand of Southern Style Chicken Breast was impressive in the taste department, but I will admit I did not expect the dill flavor, if that is the ' Southern Style' flavor, I had no idea. While it wasn't bad, or overpowering, I wasn't the biggest fan of the dill flavoring. I think the next time I purchase Kirkwood Chicken Products I will avoid the Southern Style and go with original, or any other flavor available.

For the price and the quantity you get with the 32 ounce sized bag of Kirkwood Southern Style Chicken Fillets you can't really go wrong with this Aldi store brand product. It is affordable, easy to prepare, healthier than many other foods that are frozen and easy to prepare, and best of all this store brand product does have a good flavor.

The fillets are juicy and evenly breaded, this is a good source of protein and also contains a small amount of Vitamins A and C. The other side of the coin is the whopping 13 grams of fat, 45 milligrams of cholesterol and this frozen chicken fillet is very high in sodium.

All in all, I would purchase Kirkwood Southern Style Chicken Fillets again and I would also be likely to recommend this Aldi brand product to other shoppers who are looking for a fast, delicious and affordable chicken fillet product that is ideal for sandwiches or on its own with vegetables.

I think these Kirkwood Southern Style breaded chicken breast fillets are just great. So many different meals can be made with them - chicken Parmesan, chicken with Alfredo sauce and pasta, lemon chicken, and.... well.....just "plain" Southern breaded chicken. Very tasty, moist enough and with a modest "crunch". There is no waste, and despite the fact that these frozen breaded breasts have *not* been cooked and are raw, cooking time @450ยบ is only 25 minutes. We get 4 generous servings with each 3 lb bag of frozen fillets.

We tried these last night and were completely blown away by how much they taste like the golden arch brand sandwich. If you like eating the Southern Style Sandwich at the golden arches, you will love these.
