Kiss

Jose Zuniga

The face of hope lies under sinking ropes

Help before the strength of me lies in defeat

Trade me a kiss for a fancy joke:

" I know a fun youth you would like to meet...."

You crack a smile but fail to wet your lips

Perhaps similar runs at practiced wit

Will produce what fails in these dull tulips?

Yet my mouth is left tasteless like some twit.

Sample of my affectionate regard

With the disregard of my ill-manners

And do not my once feeble heart discard

Like ugly Irish beer-soaked banners

I swear that for one kiss I give my drink

Wine would be glad to meet your tongue, me thinks.
