Kitchen Appliances for Your First Apartment

When you just move in to your very first apartment you will most likely need to get yourself some decent kitchen appliances. But what appliances should you get? Here are a short list of basic kitchen appliances that you should have.

1. Cookware set

A basic cookware set usually consists of frying pans, sauce pans, Dutch oven and spoons. Don't bother with non-stick stuff and get yourself a good stainless steel cookware set with copper bottom. They work well for daily usage and will last much longer. You don't want to keep buying new cookware set every now and then do you?

2. Toaster

Alas, this is practically a no brainer. A toaster is cheap and you know you're going to use it over and over again. Get yourself a simple, no-frills toaster. The simple ones tend to last longer.

3. Coffee maker

Nothing beats a good cup of coffee to give you a jump start in the morning. And if you want to have a good cup of coffee you better treat yourself with a good piece of coffee maker. You may want to consider buying a single-serve coffee maker because it won't waste your coffee as much as larger coffee maker.

4. Blender

A great blender would have a powerful motor that can chop ice and frozen fruits easily. And it better be quite too or at least not too noisy so you can make a nice smoothie without waking up the couples next door.

5. Knife set

For less than $40 you can get a good 14-piece stainless steel knife set from Ginsu. They're sharp and as long as you don't put them in the dishwasher you don't need to worry about rust.

6. Cutting board

What you need is a nice cutting board with non-slip rubber at the bottom and a smooth surface at the top for easy and safe cutting.

7. Can opener

You should get a can opener from Amco . It's portable, durable, comfortable to hold and also has a bottle opener (and it only cost you $8)

8. Garbage can

An ordinary under-the-sink garbage can would do just fine. As long as the lid can be shut tight then it's all good.

9. Canisters

Get a nice set of canisters that can mix well with the rest of your kitchen. Canisters are not only good for keeping food items they are also great for decorations.

10. Plastic wrap

When you can finish your meal in one go a plastic wrap is a great saver. It can also keep other food stuff fresh longer
