Instructions
1. The first step to making your own decorative cast iron pan is to choose a pan. You can use an old one that you don't need anymore, or you can purchase a new cast iron pan from the store. Whether the pan is new or old, make sure that you clean is thoroughly before moving on.
2. Now it's time to choose the design that you're going to do. There are many different options for this kitchen craft. You can choose a design from the Internet, you can make up your own. You can trace the design onto the pan, you can draw it yourself. You can paint it, make a collage, anything that you would think would fit the theme of your kitchen.
3. When it comes time to actually decorate your cast iron pan, the first step is to do the background. Make sure that you apply the background so that when you hang the pan by the handle, it will be right side up. You can use some wallpaper left over from your kitchen, you can paint it, or you can glue down some cardboard paper or decorative paper. If you have chosen to paint, acrylic paint will work best, and you will have to be sure to let the paint dry before moving on.
4. After the background has been applied, or painted, or drawn, it is time to add the foreground. If you have chosen to paint something, my suggestion would be to draw it out on a piece of paper first and then use chalk to transfer it on your cast iron pan to make sure there are no mess-ups. Collages are very easy, all you have to do is cut out the pictures you want and glue them on in the right spot. Another great idea is to use family pictures.
5. Once you have done both the background and foreground, you're almost ready to hang your new kitchen craft. Make sure that everything is dry before moving your decorative cast iron pan. Choose a ribbon that will fit the theme of your kitchen and the design of your cast iron pan. Tie the ribbon in a nice bow around the handle, just to add a little bit of detail, but you don't have to this if you don't want to.
6. Once you're done, hang your decorative cast iron pan on your kitchen wall. Make sure that you use something sturdy, a cast iron pan is not exactly light. Enjoy your brand new, handmade, kitchen decoration.
