Kitchen Keepers Mini Swift Peeler Works Well, but it Isn't Perfect

Product Review

Charlotte Kuchinsky
I hate peeling potatoes or any other type of vegetable for that matter. Unfortunately, it is sometimes necessary.

When I can, I con my husband into doing the peeling for me. He doesn't mind the chore as much as I do. That is especially true now that we have the Kitchen Keepers Mini Swift Peeler.

From Tee Vee Brand products sold at Dollar Tree, the Mini Swift Peeler fits on your finger and works by using the palm of your hand. This unique designs allows you to peel fruits and vegetables in short bursts or in long curly peels.

The company claims the Kitchen Keepers Mini Swift Peeler is the "easiest peeler ever made." It also claims it will peel both thick and thin skins of most types of fruits and vegetables It promises to be both dishwasher safe and easy to clean. Finally, it says the peeler will make peeling easy and fun. But are those claims true? Let's take a look.

I don't know that Kitchen Keepers Mini Swift Peeler is the easiest peeler ever made but it certainly tops a lot of similar products on the market today. You can slip the peeler onto whichever finger makes it easier for you to achieve the desired outcome. I find that the middle finger works well.

It does; however, take a bit of practice to get the hang of this peeler so don't expect to get it correct right out of the gate. I think it deserves high scores but not a totally perfect one. Therefore, I give it 4 out of 5 stars.

Saying that the Mini Swift Peeler can peel both thick and thin skins may be stretching the true just a little bit. It does peel white potatoes, carrots, cucumbers, and most squash, etc. pretty well. On the other hand, it has a problem with sweet potatoes, eggplant, oranges, lemons or limes, where the skin is a little bit denser.

Kitchen Keepers Mini Swift Peeler doesn't really work well for peeling extremely thin skins either, like those of a grape or strawberry. It bites a bit too far into those items, leaving them just a bit mangled.

I offer another heads up; as well. The smaller the object being peeled, the harder it is with Kitchen Keepers Mini Swift Peeler. This product is really made for larger items. Anything too tiny could result in unnecessary and painful cuts of the fingers and hands as well. Therefore, I give the product only 3 out of 5 stars.

When it comes to being dishwasher safe, it is important to note that if you leave water standing on the stainless steel blade, it will rust. On the other hand, if you dry the peeler immediately, it cleans pretty well in the dishwasher.

I prefer cleaning mine in the sink. It rinses clean easily and can be dried with a swipe of a towel. Therefore, I give it another 4 out of 5 stars in this department.

As for making peeling fun, I'm not sure I would go that far. However, I will admit that it is more fun than the old fashioned peelers of yesteryear. I give it another 4 out of 5 stars.

That makes for 15 out of a possible 20 stars, which averages out to 3.3 stars. That is still pretty good when you consider that peeling isn't exactly a fun thing to do.

Kitchen Keepers Mini Swift Peeler is round in shape, measuring about 2.25" in diameter. It is made from plastic and rubber with sharp stainless steel blades. Greenbrier International, Inc. out of Chesapeake, VA 23320 distributes it. Unfortunately, it is manufactured in China; not in the U.S.A.

Kitchen Keepers Mini Swift Peeler is currently only available at Dollar Tree. The good news; however, is that Dollar Tree Stores are located throughout the United States.

The $1 price tag associated with this product is a big bonus. It is certainly worth two or three times that amount.

I've got a Kitchen Aid peeler I wouldn't trade for anything, as intriquing as this sounds.
