Contractors Who Won't Cause Your Head to Ache

Whether it is being done because you just want a new kitchen or because it is one of the top things you can do to help sell your house in the tough market that we are in kitchen remodeling is a rewarding but harrowing journey. We have all heard the horror stories about contractors and finding the person who is going to be inside your home and you trust to spend your hard-earned money well to get the kitchen remodeling that you want is a difficult first step. Here in Houston, TX we have some great options, though. The national average for a full kitchen remodel is $18,500 but lucky us, here in Houston we can usually do it for less!

1. Cross Connection Remodeling (www.crossconnectionremodeling.com)

This company is located in the Cypress area, but serves all of Houston. To begin with, it is an accredited Better Business Bureau (BBB) business and has been since 2008, although the company itself has been around for many years more than that. In the time that they have been reporting to the BBB, they haven't received a single complaint and they have a rating of A+, which is great, especially given the wide amount of work they do. For kitchen renovations, the list of things that they can do for you is a long one, including everything from the full kitchen design to the drywall, to the paint scheme, to the insulation. They are members of the Greater Houston Builders Association Remodelors Council, the National Association of Home Builders, the Texas Association of Builders, and the Texas Residential Construction Commission. Far from simply not having complaints, Houstonians have a lot of positive things to say about this company. High on this list is the professionalism of the president, Earl Hughes, and the attention to detail that this company brings to the table. If you are worried about cost (and let's face it, who isn't?), they provide a free consultation that will give you the limitations of where you can go on your budget and what they can do and what they recommend. With all of the options available through this company and the extensive experience of Earl Hughes, you aren't likely to go wrong.

2. BellReed Designs (www.bellreeddesigns.com)

If you want to go another route, try BellReed Designs. This company is located on Bartlett Street here in Houston and for over 20 years has been providing Houston with some very beautiful kitchen designs. The designer, Mary Bell, runs the company out of a brick cottage paired with her son Troy Reed who runs the construction end of the business. The company may be based around design, but don't be fooled, they run the full service and can get your total kitchen remodel done reliably and for a good price. Mary Bell's work has been featured in magazines like Better Homes & Gardens and House and Home. Browsing through her work will give you the confidence to know this company can make your kitchen dreams a reality. You can schedule a free appointment at the showroom with Mary and get a better idea of prices and get an idea of what she can do for you on your budget.

3. Urban Designer Kitchens (www.urbandesignerkitchens.com)

There is another way to go as well, and that is to find someone who focuses solely on kitchens. Urban Designer Kitchens does just that. For more than 70 years they have been designing kitchens for Houstonians. Their focus is the design, taking into account both your budget and your style and provide services from cabinets to a complete remodel. They are located down on Richmond and are a reliable company with a great portfolio. Check them out.

A great place overall to start is the following website: http://houston.homeconnections.com/tasklocal.Kitchen-Remodel.Houston.Texas.40131.html

This is a Houston based locator that will ask you several questions about what you want with your remodel and will match you with some great contractors. They have reviews and average costs as well as average durations. One of the best parts of living in Houston is our wide variety of options. Hopefully the above will give you a great place to start looking for a great local contractor. And remember, home renovations of any type are long and bound to crop up unexpected problems, but stick to it and in the end it will be worth every minute!
