Kiwanis Cornhole Tournament Raises Funds for Community Projects

Vinton County Kiwanis Members Organizing Summer Youth Projects and Activities

Tara Dodrill
The Kiwanis Club of Vinton County hosted a fundraiser corn hole tournament May 9 at the VFW Post #5299 in McArthur. Club members organized the tournament to raise funds for upcoming community improvement and youth centered events. A Kiwanis Kidfest is being planned for just prior to the school year, and will feature free activities and school supplies for Vinton County youth.

The winners of the tournament were a father-daughter team from Circleville. Brook Francis is an 11 year old corn bag throwing phenom, who began participation in the popular backyard pastime two years ago. Brook, and her father, Gary recently placed second in a large all Ohio tournament held at The Ohio State University. Earning second place honors at the Kiwanis corn hole tourney were Ted Dillon and Dale Dass. Dusty Ward and Ryan Caudill placed third, and were the first place winners at the fall Kiwanis sponsored corn hole tournament in 2008.

I was about to say, I thought they only played cornhole in Cincinnati; then I realized you were from Ohio too. Is it an Ohio thing?
