At 6'6 and 241lbs of solid muscle, Wladimir Klitschko may be the emerging sensation needed in the heavyweight division. With his recent victories over Chris Byrd and Calvin Brock he is a threat to any challenger for his IBF championship.
Klitschko, 30, has restored the prominent acclaim he once carried several years prior to his five fight win streak. The "K" stands for knockout. Within his last five opponents he has KO'd four of them in brutal fashion. In addition he 42 of his 47 victories have come by knockout.
Wladimir Klitschko has the essential tools necessary to take apart the entire heavyweight division. Not only does he possess great rhythm and movement for a big man, he has a dynamite right hand, swift left hook and long sneaky left jab, which is hard to get away from. He currently reigns as the division's IBF heavyweight champion; via 7th round KO over Chris Byrd on April 22, 2006.
Recently on November 11th 2006, he successfully defended his IBF title against undefeated Calvin Brock at Madison Square Garden. Brock, 31, was no match for the taller and less nervous Klitschko who used his physical advantages to dominate. The end result was horrific as Brock was hit flush and laid out face first. It was Klitschko's first title defense and probably won't be his last.
When avid boxing fans dissect the remainder of the division, there isn't any indication that other existing champions Shannon Briggs, Nikolay Valuev and Oleg Maskaev can compete. Thus at (47-3 42KOs) Wladimir has the best chance at unifying the heavyweight division titles.
"I felt very comfortable in the ring," Klitschko admitted at a recent post fight conference following his victory over Calvin Brock. "It was a good experience and I think I can do much better."
