Knees are fragile. Healthy knees require only one thing to remain healthy, outside of good nutritional care; they must remain in alignment with the other load bearing joint on their side of the body. There are rarely any reports of knee discomfort or injury if they are aligned and allowed to do their work in association with the ankles and hips.
This interesting tidbit should aid you in maintaining a healthy body and healthy knees. Except for our spinal column and our skull the remainder of the entire human musculoskeletal system has two of everything else. The right and left halves of our body are functionally identical. Both sides were designed to operate in the exact same way. When they do not, the balance and health of the entire bodily system is adversely affected.
Synchronization of the hip, knee, and ankle are the key to maintaining healthy pain free locomotion. However, on occasion, accidents do happen; slipping in the shower, tripping on the stairs, or falling on the tennis court can produce mild to extreme pain in your knees. When this does occur, a topical ibuprofen pain reliever is recommended because it has fewer side effects than an oral ibuprofen pain reliever. According to a British pain research study, a pain relief cream may be the better remedy for aching knees than a pill.
Patients who were studied experienced close to the same and in many cases exactly the same levels of relief whether they applied a topical pain relief drug, or took oral pain relief medication. For this study ibuprofen was the pain relief medication administered, both orally and topically. There was however a noticeable side affects which affected those who took the oral pain reliever. Those who swallowed their pain relief medicine suffered more respiratory and kidney discomfort and problems then those who applied the topical pain relief cream.
Topical ibuprofen pain relief cream is currently not available in the United States. Voltaren gel is a locally available alternative. Voltaren is made with diclofenac, a drug that has similar pain relief properties to ibuprofen. It appears inevitable, damage or injury to your knees will happen sooner or later. When it happens to you, do not automatically reach for the pill bottle, use a topical pain reliever instead. It is safer, and will aid in helping your body maintain the bilateral balance it requires.
