Knight and Day Movie Review: Cruise Diaz

Diaz + Cruise = Flop or Top Film?

Ranee Wright
Knight and Day, rated PG-13, is an action/adventure romance starring Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz. The film opened in U.S. theaters on June 23, 2010. Cruise and Diaz have not collaborated on a film since Vanilla Sky. Is the almost two hour long movie starring these two great actors worth your time? Here is a breakdown of the plot, positives and negatives of the new Diaz Cruise film.

Knight and Day Movie - Plot

Cruise and Diaz first run into each other (literally) at the airport. Diaz (mechanic and classic car connoisseur) ends up on a plane with Cruise (a spy) and becomes quite smitten. Their lives quickly become entangled but Diaz is unsure she can trust him. The movie is fast-paced so pay attention. If you can get past some of the unrealistic nature of the film, you will be entertained. The charm of the actors, stunts, and quirky writing make the film interesting. The ending is perfect.

Knight and Day Movie Review - Positives and Negatives

Most critics were unkind to Knight and Day, focusing on the lack of substance in the movie title and storyline. Contrary to those reviews, I found significance in the title and a strong plot. The cinematography was superb including how well they hid the fact that Cruise is about four inches shorter than Diaz.

Perhaps the best thing about this Diaz Cruise film is that both men and women can enjoy it. The mix of romance with the action and adventure make a perfect combination for an enjoyable movie night with your significant other. The eccentric banter is what made this film a hit for me.

How Does Knight and Day Compare?

Summer 2010 has been full of unoriginal movies, remakes and sequels. Knight and Day is a refreshing, original and fun film that I would certainly watch again and consider buying. Before seeing the movie Knight and Day in theaters, I saw The Killers at the drive-in. In my humble opinion, Knight and Day was 10 times better than The Killers. Both films have the spices of action and romance but I enjoyed the writing and antics of the Cruise Diaz movie a great deal more.
