It seems like every day is celebrate ... day, celebrate National that day...; on June 5, 2009 it was celebrate Donut Day and free donuts seemed to be everywhere. Well, I'm writing this on June 13, 2009 and it is World Wide Knit in Public Day (WWKiP) but this a huge event. It can't be contained in one day; although, the big push in Lancaster County Pa (my stomping ground) was for June 13, 2009. World Wide Knit in Public Day , also known as Knit in Public Day (KIP), has become World Wide Knit in Public Days and it is celebrated over not one but two weekends. In 2009, the weekends are June 13-14 and June 20-21.

Grab your circular needles, aluminum needles, rosewood needles, bamboo, needles, square needles, casein needles or glass needles (well, maybe leave these at home to avoid the risk of breakage) and join the rest of the world of knitters and knit in public. WWKiP Day started 2005. The knitting can be a solitary activity but it is much it is more enjoyable in the company of fellow knitters. This is why WWKiP was established, to bring lovers of knitting together. It has become more that this in the past several years; it now hopes to raise awareness of the about the wide variety of persons who love the craft. To find out more about WWKiP events near you, go to the World Wide Knit in Public Day(s) website: www.wwkipday.com

As the second weekend of WWKiP is over Father's Day, you could knit something for Dad or if you are going to have a little one and haven't told the soon to be Father yet, start knitting for that soon to be baby. See if your hubby picks up on the hint. It is a rather old fashioned, but quaint knitting tradition of letting the "daddy" know.

If you are looking for something different to knit while you're out and about, why not knit something from the soon to be released Wacky Baby Knits. This book will be released in July 2009. No plain Jane booties or yawningly boring baby hats in the 20 patterns offered within the book (sorry, the free pattern downloads are all that I could find. You'll just have to buy the book). Try something new, quirky, wacky and in some cases whimsical.'Wacky Baby Knits'is by author Alison Jenkins. Other adorable outfits in the book include a pirate costume, frog, cow, robot, and a biker jacket. Don't forget to catch this book when it hits the shelves; I expect it to fly off the shelves quickly with patterns such as these:
