Knowing Your Father God

What Does it Mean to Know God

Charisse Van Horn
God is so awesome, so majestic, and His ways are far beyond anything that we can ever fathom. I quit trying to figure out God a long time ago. Now, I just take it from glory to glory and let Him reveal Himself to me. He's a good Father like that, you know. I mean- here 's an analogy.

Say you never met your real father, but you found a book about him. So you read the book, with a desperation and hunger like you've never known. You study the book, you memorize it, until you feel that you know your father inside and out. I mean, you can quote that book about your father until you're blue in the face. Then one day, you get a phone call. You're father is coming to visit, he wants to meet you. It doesn't matter why you were separated, all that's in the past. The only thing that matters now is that you can see him, face to face, to meet him, to know him, to spend time with him.

Only you say, "I don't need to see you. I don't need to meet you. You see, I read your book. I know everything there is to know about you already. Really, you don't even have to come to visit. Why trouble yourself- anything I need from you is right here in my book."

Wow,
Unfortunately, many people take this attitude with their heavenly Father. They feel that they know everything there is to know about Him, simply from reading the Bible. And when it comes time for Father God to show up, to spend intimate time with Him, one on one, they say no thanks- I have the Word- that's all I need. But that isn't all we need.

You see, the Father gave us the deposit of the Holy Spirit, and the Holy Spirit is more than an "interpreter of the Word" the Holy Spirit is how we commune and fellowship with God on a level that we otherwise never could attain.

It's the Deep unto Deep.

Without the Holy Spirit all you have is a book about your Father.
And yes, your Father is revealed in the book.
Yes, you can memorize facts about Your Heavenly Father.
But until you encounter Him through the Holy Spirit,
you will not know Him fully and be changed from glory to glory.
