Knowing from Whence Our Help Comes Psalm 3:1

Powers and Principalities

"O LORD, how many are my foes! How many rise up against me!" - Psalm 3:1 NIV

When David was being pursued by his enemies whether they be another nation, King Saul, or even his own son Absalom, he knew where to turn to for his help. David always turned to YHVH, Adonai, in our English language He is God, LORD. David was a man who knew from whence his help came.

In this life we are in battles both physically and spiritually. Our physical battles are not always of the fist to fist variety, but rather they may be verbal, and at times we have to deal with those whom we often refer to as backstabbers. In any event these are physical battles and are with other people, who physically exist in our lives. We usually know to cry out to God for whatever we need to deal with these types of battles. I personally find myself calling out to the LORD to either give me the strength or peace of mind to deal with an attack from another person. After I call out to Him I find that the peace I was seeking has come.

However, it seems that when we get attacked on a physical and spiritual level whose source is not of man, we often don't go to God first. God's Word tells us that other entities, spirits, powers, and principalities exist beyond our corporal world that are attacking us, actually they attack us far more often than we realize. Do not be fooled these attacks are calculated, planned and delivered with precision. Sounds almost like a military attack doesn't it? Well it is.

"For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places." - Ephesians 6:12 - KJV

Looking at Ephesians 6:12 can any human alone, or for that matter, can any army of men fight against such forces on their own? The answer is NO. This is why when we feel these attacks coming upon us we need to be like David and come before the LORD telling him about our troubles saying,

"O LORD, how many are my foes! How many rise up against me!" - Psalm 3:1 NIV

When we tell the LORD about our troubles, seeking His help, we are letting God know that we trust Him to be Him. We are trusting the Almighty to be just that, All Mighty in All Things and triumphing over every affliction that comes our way that we bring before him.

"Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to His cross; and having spoiled principalities and powers, He made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it." - Colossians 2:14-15 KJV
