Knowing from Whence Our Help Comes Psalm 3:8

Psalm 3:1-7 shows us that:

1. When the powers and principalities come against us we should take these troubles first to the LORD.

2. When faced with the obstacles these forces put in our way, we need to believe God, not man.

3. In the midst of our storms we are to continually praise God with every breathe we take.

4. It is ok and expected of us to cry out to God when we are in trouble.

5. Even though our problems may seem overwhelming, we are still here, bearing them fore God sustains us in our weakest hours.

6. During these weak hours Satan will try to place fear in our hearts, but we are to take comfort that fear is not a spirit God places in us, therefore we are to reject it.

7. When it seems like we can't bear it anymore we need to Shout to the LORD telling Him exactly what is needed.

All preceding seven verses of Psalm 3 are simply about taking God at His Word. In order to do this we must recognize there is power in God's Word. I know people say this often but let's do a little searching to find out why this is true.

As Christians we believe that God created the Heavens, Earth, Waters, Sun, Moon, Stars, vegetation, animals, and man. However, Genesis 1:1-19 shows us that God spoke the first six aforementioned items into existence. Yes God's Word is active, it creates and produces.

Second awesome fact of God's Word is that once God says something or speaks of something to come, it happens. In Deuteronomy chapters 28 through 30, God spoke to the Israelites about blessings and curses associated with obedience to his commands. The first few generations in general kept God's commands, unfortunately after the rule of King David national sin once again prevailed beginning with King Solomon after he began worshiping the gods of his wives. The books of Kings and Chronicles show how God's Word fulfilled the curses associated with disobedience as God stated in Deuteronomy 28-30.

This final example is linked to reason showing the power of God's Word. God's Word is true. It is as simple as that. What did Jesus tell us about the truth?

"And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." - John 8:32 KJV

God even tells us that He is not a man that He would tell us a lie. God told Abraham and Sarah they would conceive a child, and they did. God told Joseph through His angel that Mary would bear a child and his name shall be Yeshua. Yeshua is the original name of Jesus (Jesus is our English translation). Yeshua means YHVH (God's Name) Saves. Is that not what Jesus did? Jesus died for our sins so that we may be free from sin and save our eternal spirits to be reconciled back with God. In giving His Son the name Yeshua, Jesus, God told the truth. How awesome is that!? One name, given from God, in its very essence being a true Word from God!

When we recognize that God's Word has power and we take Him at his Word as Psalm 3:1-7 shows us, then our help comes and the LORD blesses. This is the beauty and assurance of our knowing from whence our help comes.

"God will not deliver him."

you bestow glory on me and lift up my head.

I wake again, because the LORD sustains me.

⁶ I will not fear the tens of thousands

drawn up against me on every side.

⁷ Arise, O LORD!

Deliver me, O my God!

Strike all my enemies on the jaw;

break the teeth of the wicked.

⁸ From the LORD comes deliverance.
