Known for Dow Chemical, Midland, Michigan Can Also Be Recognized for Its Class A Baseball Team

For as long as I can remember, Midland has always been about Dow Chemical. A lot of people will say that DOW is responsible for keeping my town going year after year which may be true in a sense. Thankfully this year, Midland can finally at an attraction that could easily draw in crowds from all over the state and possible out of state as well. With the addition of Dow Diamond and the Great Lakes Loons, Midland now has more of an name for itself.

This is the first year the Great Lakes Loons will be here in Midland and already has brought in crowds from all over the state almost everyday. The stadium itself is beautiful and very well built. The stadium even offers upper level suites for even the hardcore fans.

Even though the Loons are an affiliate to the Los Angeles Dodgers, they have still found themselves in Midland. Their season so far hasn't gone their way but what everyone needs to remember is that this is their first season here and with new staff and settings, it can be a challenge to get everything rolling smoothly. The neat thing is going to these games and thinking "Man, one of these guys may go to the Majors one day". It would be something to see a guy 5 years later when he's a MLB Star knowing "I use to watch him every weekend when he was in the minors."

A lot of the names today aren't real well known but there is one name that has to stand out more than the other's. Scott VanSlyke, one of the Loon's outfielder's is the son of Detroit Tiger's first base coach, Andy VanSlyke.

Dow Diamond is a very clean and family oriented stadium that has something for everyone. Great concession varieties are just the start, along with shops where you can buy all of your favorite Loon's gear. Kids can stand down by the field while they players warm up and seek some autographs if they want to. The ball field offers main seating from 3rd base side to the 1st base side and they are around $8 for reserved box seats and $6 for lawn seats in the outfield. They also have the Northern Lights Pavilion for groups of people that go to a game.

With the addition of the Loons, Midland has finally found it's first real tourist attraction in a long, long time. Before there wasn't really much to Midland outside of the Midland Mall, the NCG Cinema's, and the Midland Fair that was once a year. Now Midland has gone full blown with Dow Diamond by putting up directional signs inside and out of town to ensure people will see what attractions Midland has and to ensure people can get to them.

Nothing is real hard to find in Midland because it's not real big in size. The ball park will offer a great attraction for years to come even if the Loons do poorly or they are champions. In 2008, Dow Diamond will be hosting the 2008 All-Star Game for the minors which is guaranteed to be huge.

If you are ever in the area of Midland, I would recommend you come check out a Loon's ball game sometime. The park is very nice and has a great family atmosphere. The prices are reasonable and the ball games are always sure to be exciting. You can check out the Loon's Site Here.
