In a report by Adam Taylor, assistant news director at WMVO in Mount Vernon and owner of local news site KnoxPages.com, Ogle confirmed multiple stab wounds as the cause of death.
Tina Herrmann, Kody Maynard and Stephanie Sprang were last seen Wednesday November 10 in Herrmann's Apple Valley home and their bodies were recovered on Thursday November 18. The bodies were found inside a hollow tree in plastic trash bags in the Kokosing Wildlife Preserve near Fredericktown, several miles away.
Ogle's report indicated multiple stab wounds to the chest and back and that the bodies had been dismembered. No signs of sexual assault were revealed by the autopsy.
The coroner indicated final autopsy reports including toxicology will not be available for six to eight weeks.
Tina Herrmann's 13-year old daughter was also reported missing with the others. She was rescued the morning of Sunday November 14 when she was found bound and gagged in the basement of a Mount Vernon-area home. The homeowner, 30-year old Matthew Hoffman is being held in the Knox County Jail on a $1 million cash bond on charges of kidnapping.
Hoffman is next scheduled to appear in Mount Vernon Municipal Court on Tuesday to determine if there is sufficient cause to continue holding him on the felony charge. During a media briefing following the discovery of the bodies, Knox County Prosecutor John Thatcher indicated that additional charges will be filed following the completion of the investigation.
Thatcher expects to present a case to the Knox County Grand Jury within four to six weeks.
A private funeral service for the family of Stephanie Sprang will be held in Mount Vernon. A joint service for Tina Herrmann and her 11-year old son Kody Maynard is planned for Wednesday, November 24.
Many banks in the Central Ohio area are accepting donations to benefit the families of the three murder victims. Several businesses are accepting donations for those funds as well as conducting fund raising activities.

Post a CommentWhat in the world is wrong with this man!!! He needs to be locked up for the rest of his life with pictures of what he did all over his walls to remind him everyday of what a monster he is!!!
How can anyone defend the guy who did this? Our society is so filled with this type of crime.
Thanks for the update. What a sad story.
Know that our family is keeping Tina's & Kody's family in our prayers as well as Stephanie's family also. It is such a shame that such evil is among us. Please know that we are praying that God will wrap his loving arms around the families and comfort them at this very difficult time.
