With two young children and living away from our home, we do a lot of photography. My wife carries a digital camera in her diaper bag and I carry one at most times as well. It just so happened that while we were enjoying a weekend vacation, my digital camera was stolen. Since there is no prying my wife's away from her, it was time to purchase a new camera. After looking online, I decided that since I needed a point and shoot type camera because I needed one that is lightweight, inexpensive, and user friendly. Eventually I decided that I would either purchase a Kodak EasyShare C875 or Fujifilm FinePix S6000fd. To decide between the two of them, I would compare them in price, weight, zoom, megapixels, features, reputation, and ease of use.

The Kodak EasyShare C875 has a suggested retail value of 180.00 dollars. The Fujifilm FinePix S6000fd is nearly double that at $340.00 dollars. Although the Fujifilm FinePix S6000fd is much more expensive, if its features outperform the Kodak EasyShare C875 it delay my next digital camera purchase, and make it worth spending more.

The Fujifilm FinePix S6000fd weighs in at 6 ounces. The Kodak EasyShare C875 weighs just a little bit more a 7 ounces. Since, both of them are support lightweight, it would be hard to hold one ounce against the Kodak EasyShare C875. The Kodak EasyShare C875 has an optical zoom of five, compared to the Fujifilm FinePix S6000fd has an optical zoom of 10.7. Clearly the Fujifilm FinePix S6000fd, outperforms in this area. The Fujifilm FinePix S6000fd is a 6.3 megapixel camera, where the Kodak EasyShare C875 is a eight megapixel camera. So here the Kodak EasyShare C875 is the clear winner.

One of the most important factors in choosing a digital camera is the features. The Fujifilm FinePix S6000fd has an LCD of 2.4 inches. It also has a flash capacity of 27.2 feet. The finished pictures from the Fujifilm FinePix S6000fd are very nice comparable to a more professional grade of camera. The Kodak EasyShare C875 has an LCD of 2.5 inches. Its flash only extends to 13.5 feet. Again the pictures look great when developed, but I felt the Fujifilm FinePix S6000fd has a better quality. For features, I feel that the Fujifilm FinePix S6000fd was the winner, although it was a tough decision.

Reputation is really important in choosing which camera to buy. Its not only important to purchase a camera that will not break, but one that if you have a problem is easily fixed. Since this is a hard decision to make, I decided to look online and get some expert opinion on this matter. Neither Fujifilm nor Kodak have great rankings for reliability, so its hard to judge it. However, my wife had an issue where she dropped an older Kodak EasyShare about six months after it was given to her as a gift. Kodak gladly decided to repair it under warranty, set a postage free box for her to send it to them, and then repaired it within a week. Since we have already had experience with Kodak, I felt that they had the better reputation.

The next important category, I evaluated was the easy of use. Both the Fujifilm FinePix S6000fd and the Kodak EasyShare C875 are user friendly. However, my wife and I have both owned Kodak EasyShares in the past, so we are very familiar with their menus and controls. For us, the Kodak EasyShare C875 was the easiest to use.

Choosing between these two great cameras was really hard to do. In many of the important areas to me, the deciding factor was only a little better or came down to previous use. The only area where I could see a huge difference was the price. Since there was a $160.00 difference, I decided that the Kodak EasyShare C875 would be the best purchase.
