Kolohe's Bar and Grill at the Marriott Beach Club in Ko Olina, Hawaii

Restaurant Review

In the resort area of Ko Olina on the Hawaiian island of Oahu, there are four man-made lagoons and three hundred and sixty-five near-perfect sunsets every year. All of which can be viewed from your tiny table at Kolohe's Bar and Grill at the Marriott Beach Club in Kapolei. Here is a review of Kolohe's Bar and Grill.

Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, Kolohe's Bar and Grill is an outdoor eatery with a breathtaking view. Although Kolohe's offers a very limited menu, it would be easy for all but the pickiest of eaters to dine there every day. And the setting isn't all Kolohe's Bar and Grill has to offer.

Overlooking Lagoon Four in the Ko Olina resort area of Kapolei (which is fast becoming Oahu's "second city"), Kolohe's Bar and Grill at the Marriott Beach Club serves up delicious dishes and tropical cocktails that can almost steer your attention away from the bright orange sun and the azure Pacific. For lunch or dinner, I highly recommend the turkey club sandwich. This immense sandwich is served on soft focaccia bread with a light spreading of a magnificent pesto sauce. To keep it healthy, ask the waitress to hold the bacon, and do your best not to finish off the fabulous french fries. In fact, if you think they are going to be too much of a temptation, substitute in an order of Maui potato chips.

To drink, well... my favorite is the Tropical Itch. But you can't go wrong no matter which tropical drink you order. The Mai Tai, the Chi Chi, the Pina Colada, the Blue Hawaii. They are all tasty and strong, and you'll probably want to sample each one at some point during your trip. The price tag is a bit hefty - ten dollars apiece - but if you arrive during happy hour, you'll catch a bit of a break. They also serve beer and wine, whatever your wish. Just wear your suntan lotion if you plan on staying a while. The umbrellas protect you, but only to an extent.

The service at Kolohe's is somewhat slow. But keep in mind, you're in Hawaii, and that means you're on aloha time now. No worries, no hurries. Besides, who is really in a rush to leave Kolohe's? Unless you are allergic to the sun, you could easily sit here all day. But please don't - I may very well be at the bar, waiting for your table.

Whatever you do, save some room for dessert. And be sure to keep your eye on the birds. They're beautiful, but don't let their innocent looks fool you. Soon as you turn around to see what's going on on the beach, they'll steal a french fry from your plate and head over to a lounge chair to dine poolside. Then again, you're at Kolohe's in Ko Olina, so... Who cares?

Nice review - we enjoy the place, too. However, it overlooks Lagoon 3.
