Korean Game Developers Confirm Kinect for PC

Korean game developer GamePrix announced that its current game "Divine Soul" promises to "resemble console games. Features planned to keep this promise include a combat mode similar to the fighting game "Tekken" and Kinect support. So if there were any secret marketing plans to announce the PC version of the Microsoft Kinect motion controller, it looks like the Kinectimal is out of the bag.

For a long time-since the birth of console gaming-there has been a distinct difference between console and PC gaming. Console games are more accessible for players and only require the console and game itself to start playing. Being played in the living room with other people present does give the console gaming a party atmosphere, especially when playing party games like "Rock Band" or any of the motion control games. PC gaming requires a good hardware upgrade to play the game and also features more precise controls to play with thanks to the mouse and keyboard. PC games are usually played in the office where the PC's power allows players to connect with a whole lot more other PC gamers online, which makes the MMORPG (Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game) such a big hit for PC gaming. The two gaming platforms have butted heads frequently and the safest way to settle debate was to agree to disagree.

So this "Divine Soul" MMORPG that aims to bridge console and PC gaming begs to ask a simple yet profound question: Why? Is this just a series of tacked on gimmicks in hopes of standing above a certain Blizzard Entertainment MMORPG that is raking in embarrassingly huge piles of cash each month?

Then more questions are asked about the Kinect for PC itself.

With Kinect being a motion controller and requiring lots of space to track movements, is this really a good idea for Microsoft? Are PC gamers willing to sacrifice the precision of the mouse and keyboard? Are PC gamers willing to get off their office chairs and bounce, punch, and jiggle their way through a game when there already is a perfectly good console motion controller capable of doing the same in a more spacious venue?

Whether "Divine Soul" becomes a hit or a flop, the news that Kinect is hitting PCs is an interesting development for Microsoft and gaming. But it will be up to the gamers and consumers themselves to answer those questions and determine when and if the motion control gaming will become known as a passing fad.
