Kosher Wines for Passover

Bunchwacky
An important part of the Passover celebration is wine. While Passover wines are traditionally red, as long as the wine is Kosher, the number of options is quite large. Picking the right wine is very simple. Just consider any of these options:

Manischewitz (http://www.manischewitzwine.com/products/products.htm)

Manischewitz makes a selection of Kosher wines perfect for the Passover table. Manischewitz comes in several varieties: Concord Grape, Blackberry, Smooth and Light Concord Grape, Cherry, Extra Heavy Malaga, Elderberry, Medium Dry Concord and Loganberry. Manischewitz wines are very sweet and fruity across the board. Maneschewitz Kosher wines are also very inexpensive, with a 750ml bottle costing around five dollars.

Mogen David

Another classic wine for Passover is Mogen David (which translates to Shield of David). The three most common varieties of Mogan David are Concord, Blackberry and Cherry. Like Manischewitz, Mogen David is extremely fruity and sweet. My parents used to joke that you could make Mogen David at home by taking any red wine and adding six cups of sugar. Mogen David can be found at http://premium.premiergroup.net/store/search/index.cfm for around five dollars a bottle. In an interesting bit of trivia, Mogen David is the same company that makes Mad Dog 20/20!

Barons de Rothschild Edmond Benjamin Haut-Medoc 2003

If you're looking for something a little more fancy and not as powerfully sweet and fruity, then this is a very nice red. This wine is actually a mix of cabernet sauvignon and merlot. It has a nice fruity overtone and a spicy finish. It is about $25 a bottle and can be found at http://www.kosherwine.com/

Galil Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon 2007

If you're truly going to get into the spirit of Passover, then an Israeli wine made in Galilee would be a logical choice! This robust wine has blackberry overtones and plum undertones. A very nice wine at about $12 a bottle. This is also available at http://www.kosherwine.com/.

Barkan Cabernet Sauvignon Altitude Series

This is another wine from the Galilee area of Israel. This cabernet sauvignon has a strong cherry overtone with hints of eucalyptus, coffee and mint. This is a complicated wine that is very bold and not necessarily for the delicate palate. It costs about $34 and can be found at
