Kourtney Kardashian gave birth to her son, Mason, on December 14. Just a few months later, she had managed to lose more than 30 pounds of the 40 pounds she acquired during her pregnancy.

The pretty reality star revealed in an interview with Life and Style magazine that she kept her son as her focus after giving birth, noting that she had followed her doctor's instructions to eat extra calories while breast-feeding. After a safe period passed, she began running outside for about half an hour.

Kourtney's one of those early morning exercisers, which is a wise way to go because it avoids the potential for schedule conflicts and delays that can hamper exercise later in the day. In addition to running, she has added weight-training to her regime.

In her interview with Life and Style, Kourtney also listed her top ten weight-loss tips. The following are particularly commendable for being safe and effective:

- Make exercise fit into your schedule. For example, if you work later in the day, plan your workouts to occur before work, or on your lunch hour.

- Drink plenty of water. Too often, we deceive ourselves by thinking we are hungry when we're really thirsty! And it is wise to use calorie-free beverages like water rather than high-calorie choices such as lemonade.

-Partner up with a friend or family member. That way, you can support each other when one of you is tempted to skip exercise that day.

-Be realistic about your goals.

In addition, I suggest that you make a list of your goals, and be sure to keep it realistic. For example, losing two pounds a month may seem "too slow," but it adds up to more than 20 pounds in a year! Buy and keep a daily journal of your food intake and workouts. That way, you can keep yourself on track and notice any problem areas that repeatedly crop up. I know that for awhile, I always stayed on track with my goals Monday through Friday. On Saturday and Sunday, though, I'd skip my workouts, overeat, and feel miserable on Monday morning! Be self-aware of your own pitfalls and figure out a program for success.
