Richards was heard saying "Shut up! Fifty years ago we'd have you upside down with a f - - - fork up your a - ."
He then began walking back and forth onstage while hurling out even more profanities at the two men.
"You can talk, you can talk, you're brave now mother - - - . Throw his a - out. He's a n - - -!" He then goes on to use the n-word numerous times.
The audience appeared to be in complete shock by what Richards was saying, so much so that audience members started leaving. This tirade went on for at least two minutes at which point Richards left the stage. Since the incident numerous media outlets have tried to reach Richards and his reps for comment, but now it appears that he has nothing to say.
CNN has reported that although he has refused to comment on-camera that he said off-camera he felt sorry for what had happened and had made amends.
And exactly how did Michael Richards make a mends? Did he find the men that he insulted and treated less then human and apologize to them? Did he come out publicly and denounce his racist behavior? No he did none of those things.
What he did do was return to the Laugh Factory the next day and performed, this time without incident.
So what does that tell me? It tells me quite a few things. First , that he isn't sorry. He could careless. He said it, he meant it and I bet you money that he lost no sleep over it. It also tells me that the Laugh Factory thought so little of what he did and their African American audience that they allowed him to come back the next night.
Wasn't it not so long ago that everyone was up in arms at the insults hurled at the Jewish Community by one drunken Mel Gibson? And I'm not in no way defending Mel Gibson, but at least he had the excuse of being drunk ( or least he thought that was a good excuse). What's Michael's excuse? I'm sure he was sober, more so then Mel Gibson, but other then reading a little blurb about it here and there (and just so you know you can see the video footage on tmz.com) no one is really making a big deal about.
In most situations I try to take something away from it. I ask myself "what is the moral of this story?" Well it appears the moral is that if you insult the wrong group of people that you can lose your career, get booted out of Hollywood, and end up crying during an interview with Barbara Walters, but if you insult other groups or another race of people then so what, who cares. Maybe the media will dedicate a few minutes to what you did, maybe video footage of your bad behavior will be leaked around a few websites or just maybe a blog about your ignorant behavior will end up on associatedcontent.com.

Post a CommentWell I think his racial slurrs are horrid and unexcusable. However lets not start with the if they were jews everyone would be up in arms. If they were white and the comedian was black it would be seen as just another night of comedy. I am sick of people and being so aware of color we are all human lets try and act like it.
What shocks me is the hasty judgment you all have made against the actions of Richards. Hearing only one side of the story is hardly fair. The men Richards supposedly insulted were probably selling drugs or committing acts of gang violence for all we know. Who is it then that is so reprehensible Richards or YOU ALL? Think about that one.
I find it disgusting and astonishing that anyone would talk that way to anyone. I am a white woman, but white or black or male or female, it is offensive and horrifying. I hope he has some kind of consequences for it. I don't think he should have been let perform again at the Laugh Factory at least for a long long time and with a very public apology. Sincerely Shana
Yeah it came as a shock to me to, but your right he probably needs the attention.
Wow, I had no idea he was like that. Perhaps not as much was made of it because he's not as big a celebrity. After all, does he have any better gigs than the Laugh Factory these days?
