Kris Allen Has Another Subpar Performance on April 14 American Idol

Gerald McConway
If there was one performer that you expected to bounce back strong from a weak performance last week, it was Kris Allen. Unfortunately, he fell back another rung on the ladder and is now going to have to fight for his life in the voting. He has a huge following and would also probably benefit from a judge's save if he were to end up in the bottom spot, but where have the show stopping performances gone?

I was one of the biggest advocates only a few short weeks ago and he was actually one of the main reasons I tuned in this week. I was fully expecting him to play something that would have the audience dancing in the aisles on his guitar. Instead he slowed it down and delivered a weak performance on an obscure song that had people shaking their heads.

The shame of it all is that this kid is loaded with talent. He can sing, he can move, he plays several instruments very well and when he is on, he is Adam Lambert's main competition. Again though, the question is what has happened to him over the last two weeks that has led to such horrible performances?

The real question of course is if it was enough to have him off of the show and that is easily answered with a firm NO. As stated previously, his fan base alone will keep him alive this week and if they don't the judge's would save him. The performances by both Lil Rounds and Matt Giraud were equally horrible and Kris is one of 2 people that are going to benefit from this.

Kris is going to need to get back on track next week though as Anoop and Allison have both stepped it up and are now in the running. Remember, this is a what have you done for me lately show and if Anoop gets the girls swooning again, Kris is going to be out in the audience during those final few weeks.

    Are you joking here?
I suggest you to have your ears checked.
Kris' stocks skyrocked after this performance.

Gotta disagree, he doesn't need to get back on a track he never left. I loved it (and no I'm not a teenage girl). I loved "Once" and "Falling Slowly" prior to his performance, so maybe I was a little predisposed ; nevertheless, he didn't disappoint me!

Sorry but I suggest you go back and watch that beautiful performance Kris gave Tues. Apparently Simon agreed with everyone that voted to keep him safe knowing that it was brilliant!

Really tought he was the best of the night by the song choice and delivery.. subpar performance..huh!?!

He wasn't great last week, but Simon called him Brilliant today. He'll be fine.

For the record guys, I like Kris (if you go back and read my previous articles you will see how talented I think he is) and would love to see him pull out of this. I just think he has had a rough patch over the last two weeks. The fact of the matter is that he has a huge fan base and is probably not in any danger. He does have to get back to being Kris though and get the audience back involved. That was his strong point and is something most of the other contestants simply cannot do. He is still a legitimate contendor, but he has to turn it around.

Is it really fair to call the song obscure but not mention the fact that it did win the Oscar for Best Song? Frankly, there are plenty of people (who aren't necessarily Kris fans) who were happy that Kris the only one with an inspired song choice (Quentin Tarantino is one, judging by what he said on the show) rather than stick with an overplayed crowd pleaser from the previous century like almost every other contestant did (2 Bryan Adam songs????).
You're entitled to your opinion, but I would argue that far from a 'weak performance', Kris should a sensitivity and vulnerability that was required to the beautifully subtle performance.

I have to disagree utterly with the comments concerning Kris Allen. I also have to question how much you underestimate the pool of voters. Since the beginning Kris has fought to make it each round. He has been gaining more fans than losing any, and they are a loyal bunch. Although I didn't expect to be an advocate for him as a contender, Allen delivered his most poignant performances so far. It wasn't merely song choice, it was interpretation and artistry. Currently the song Falling Slowly has leaped to the top 100 searches in google. For a contestant who is living on borrowed time, this information seems to contradict it. Kris Allen continually improves and applies the advice from the judges. I have yet once to see him mouth off with the self-entitled tantrums like Lil Rounds. Nor have I seen Kris falter as badly as Matt Giraud between identifying himself as a soul singer or rock star. Although you have acknowledged Allen's talent, I find the basis for calling him in the bottom three
