Kris Allen Has Best Performance of the Night on April 21 American Idol

Gerald McConway
I took a lot of heat last week for my evaluation of Kris, but one thing everyone loses focus on is that this is an opinion. However, if anyone has read any of my previous articles or can get past the fact that I didn't like his performances the last couple of weeks, they would notice that I have said time and again that Kris is probably the most talented competitor in the competition and has a great chance of facing off against Adam.

One thing that sets these two apart is that Adam is a better showman than Kris is. Musically, Adam cannot touch Kris. Vocally Adam cannot touch Kris, but when it comes to the show that is going on, Adam gets the edge. He is close enough to Kris vocally and puts out some of the best arrangements week in and week out. If these two end up in the final together, we are going to see one of the best episodes that we have ever been treated to for a season finale.

Now I am getting ahead of myself a little bit, so let's get back to his performance this week. How does WOW sound? Paula beat me to the punch as the first note I wrote down while I was watching him perform was Santanaesque. The guitar arrangement was fantastic and the bongo addition was absolutely classic.

While there was concern voiced by others about what he would do during disco week, I had faith but never expected what I heard tonight. In my opinion, this was the best performance of the evening. Adam was good, but I don't like him when he screams those high notes. On the other hand, Kris took the disco out of disco and absolutely dominated this night.

Danny and Allison were good, but they were nowhere near the level of Adam and Kris. This was the Kris that I was begging to see the last couple of weeks and very happy to see him back on track. While I am not loyal to any one singer, I just want to see the best make it through. Kris is clearly one of the best and will have no problems getting through the next couple of weeks.

It's Kris that can't touch ADAM vocally.

There is zero doubt that Adam is going to have a successful career. The record company executives are already chomping at the bit to get after him. I can even see him becoming the front man for a band. In fact, that is exactly how I see it playing out. Regardless, it will be fun to watch when the season is over.

Matt had a few CDs released too prior to Idol. A few of the other ones did too. You are right, Adam in that sense is a true amateur. Being in theater isn't the same as recording a CD. To be honest, i see Kris as more of a song writer/producer. Like Kara.

Adam is the better showman AND the better vocalist. Stylisticly yes, they are different, but Kris is not a better vocalist than Adam. Adam has better range, tone, technique, etc. As far as a career after Idol is concerned, who knows who will flourish and who won't. currently, Adam is outselling everyone on Itunes. Out of the top 10 songs of the idol 8 contestants, his songs are 7 of them..... Kris has 2, and Danny 1. So apparently, Adam has a bright future ahead of him as well.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion guys and we all have them. It is my opinion that Kris has better vocals than Adam. It is not like I am saying that he cannot sing and if anyone would ever read past the headline or first couple of lines, they would realize that. When Adam sings ballads, he has a beautiful voice. While I think his rock performances are second to none, I think he loses it a little bit vocally when he is 'belting' out his lyrics. Regardless, he is the better showman and has a huge following. It is his show to lose at this point. Regardless of the outcome though, Kris is going to have a wonderful career. The record company executives will get behind him and change his act around a bit and he will be a household name within the next year or so.

Sorry to burst Kris' fans "ordinary guy" bubble but Kris has had an album released prior to the contest, something Adam has never had.

  • Elizabeth4/27/2009

Heck, I'm not even an Adam fan but I have to admit he is an exceptional vocalist and any article that tries to claim that a rather ordinary singer like Kris is better really should be nominated for a comedy award.

Excuse me, Gerald McConway, "vocally Adam cannot touch Kris"? Are we supposed to take the rest of your article or anything else you write seriously after that line?

  • elw4/25/2009

Kris is a nice guy and a good singer. He has had some bad nights and some good nights. That said, he can't touch Adam vocally. Even Simon can't find anything bad to say about Adam's vocals. You are foolish to write otherwise.

to Gerald McConway, Just because you keep repeating that Adam is a showman and not a vocalist doesn't make it any more true. You obviously to do have no music backgroud to support that "opinion." You can like Kris's style better ( I love it btw) but you need to go to u2b and listen to Adam's Brigadoon. No one can touch it.
