Kris Allen Kills on American Idol

Allen Finds His Sexy Behind the Keyboard

Grown and Sexy

Up to now Kris Allen has been the cute guy with the guitar, the unassuming every man. But all of that changed tonight. Kris Allen delivered the best performance of the night with an emotionally charged reworking of the Bill Wither's classic "Ain't No Sunshine". He played with the type of feeling that made one believe he knew a little about that missing sunshine. Allen found his confidence and his sexy all in the same night. After seeing how hot Kris looked stroking those keys it begs the question of why he's been pussy footing around with that guitar. I'm all for versatility but he was like a whole different artist behind the keyboard.

What's Old is New

Kara spoke about artistry and then Kris displayed said artistry. He was able to take the 30 year old song and while retaining the core melody, create a tune that was contemporary enough to hold it's own in today's market.

Gloves Are Coming Off

Up to now Kris has been quietly plying his trade, delivering competent, solid performances. Spot on and pitch perfect but not stand outs. However, now Kris has changed the game. In what was not only the best performance of the night but Kris's best performance to date, he served notice that he is a major player and the gloves are coming off.

Shut My Mouth

In the Associated Content article, "American Idol Shocker: Adam Lambert Not Number 1", Tom Raley referenced a ranking from the Facebook American Idol application that placed Allen ahead by a hefty margin. At the time I thought facebook may have been just a smidge optimistic. Well shut my mouth. As it turns out Facebook was intuitive enough to know that Kris had the stuff to turn the whole competition on its ear.

Kris gave a performance that was moving but more than that he gave one that made you want to say "play it again".

It's always interesting to read other people's takes on the contestants.
