Kris Allen vs. Adam Lambert... David vs. Goliath?

Who Will Win American Idol Season 8?

Meucci Cameron
With the finals of American Idol Season 8 looming, how close will it be? With rocker/theatrical Adam Lambert tearing up the AI stage all season and Kris Allen playing the quiet folk singer. It's like comparing an apple to... a Ferrari. Don't get me wrong, both are great and have their advantages and disadvantages.

Adam Lambert has been the obvious favorite from day one of AI Season 8. With a vocal ability the likes of none ever seen on AI, the producers hid his talent until they unleashed him on "Satisfaction". Since then, Lambert's flamboyant style has come under fire. Having performed on stage in musicals, a pop star would be a stretch for most. Adam Lambert has shown the ability to adapt his vocals to fit almost every genre. His biggest misstep was probably "Ring of Fire" on country music week. Lambert also had a so-so night on the semifinals, an issue with the back-up singers and sound mix.

Kris Allen is the quiet guy from Arkansas that has definitely had his share of Idol moments. I would have never ever picked Kris Allen to go to the finals. As the season progressed, I put him as high as 4th place. The difference for Allen is that his moments have been as huge as Adam Lambert's. As such, they have been even more surprising.Though Kris has had more forgettable performances, ones like "Heartless" have carried him through to the AI finals.

Adam Lambert has had an incredible run this season. Earning the first standing ovation from Simon Cowell ever, Lambert has been the star from day one. Kris Allen has had some stinging shots from the American Idol judges, and took them like a man. Never giving excuses.

Both Adam Lambert and Kris Allen have re-created some unbelievable songs this season. For Adam Lambert: "Satisfaction", "Tracks of My Tears", "Mad World", and of course "Whole Lotta Love". Adam used his vocal agility to own these songs. Lambert's voice is an amazing instrument.

For Kris Allen: "Ain't No Sunshine", "She Works Hard for the Money", "Falling Slowly" and of course "Heartless". Kris Allen wins the artistic prize for all recomposing these songs (and props to any help he received). I have never seen such musicality from any Idol contestant.

I will anxiously await the first CD from both of these artists.

Crowning the American Idol Season 8 winner for the producers (if they have anything to do with it *wink*) may come down to who is more ready. That is obviously Adam Lambert. He appears to have been born to entertain an audience. While Kris Allen appears more the accidental Idol. We know Kris Allen can entertain, but will he want to for the rest of his life?

My choice for the AI winner this year is Adam Lambert. It has been since the first time I saw him. He may not win, it is possible. I think I would actually feel bad for Kris Allen if he did win. Happy for him yes, but I think all the attention and touring may take a bigger toll on him than Adam Lambert. I do hope Kris Allen gives us some amazing music in the near future.

All along I have felt that Adam was the underdog. (That's not why I'm voting for him, however.) In being true to himself, he fails to fit the Idol mold--boy-next-door looks, nothing too flashy, nothing too controversial, nothing over the top...you know what I mean. But Adam is so in a different league, and it's not just because he has been in theater productions. He said early in the season that his desire was to entertain the audience. He has done that and more. I am positively addicted to the man and can't wait to buy his first CD.

PHDude is right. Adam is the underdog. Not because of his talent, that has obviously eclipsed everyone's in the competition, but because of the war being waged against him by opposite fractions in our society. Everyone from Perez Hilton to Bill O'Riley wants to suck off some of Adam's media attention. (No pun intended) It would be a sad day in America if Adam loses because the most talented performer ever too grace the stag on American idol will have lost and all that is ugly about America will have won.

PhDude -- How can the underdog be regular, incredible cute, wholesome guy who fits the typical AI profile to a tee? When the other contestant, Adam, has so much more talent that it's hard to see how America can't pick him? No when the other guy is "too edgy" for the typical AI voter -- maybe gay, Jewish, where guyliner, do I need to say more? My hope is that people who prefer Adam but think they are too cool to waste time voting on a corney show like AI, will just vote to prove a point to the whole world. Americans are not closeminded, homophobic, drones who would not vote for someone because "he might be gay". I don't care, I just love the way Adam sings. ADAM FTW.

Adam is the first Idol contestant who seems like a real Idol to me. He is a star -- win or loose. And I think he'll win. If his fans VOTE VOTE VOTE until their fingers do a rock wail!

The underdog story line is ridiculous... since when is the guy that marries the home coming queen and is so "cute" girls forget he is married considered an underdog? Adam is the real under dog and has performed all season long he has earned the Idol Crown. Vote ADAM!
