Kris Allen Wins American Idol

The time has come to call a winner to this season's American Idol, and in a stunning upset, Kris Allen takes the top prize on this reality television phenomenon. Battling for the top spot against the favored to win Adam Lambert, Kris managed to sweep to the top with his local boy charm, and keeping it real philosophy.

When it comes to vocals, both contestants offered excellent tones. Throughout the competition, it seemed that most of the public favored the more flamboyant Adam Lambert over the other famed top 13. My roommate and I discussed the final outcome and thought for sure that Lambert would take the competition.

As we hoped that Ryan would announced Kris, our hopes were made true by Kris upsetting the norm, and winning the competition. An unprecedented 100 million viewers voted, and I believe that Kris' ability to relate to the average viewer won over compared to Adam's dramatic eyeliner personality.

The past few weeks, as the last 13 contestants battled for the top spot, there were many uncertainties along the way. There were some contestants that shined brilliantly some weeks, and the next were a total flop. Consistency was lacking among the top crowd of contenders for the American Idol recording contract.

Especially over the past 5 weeks, the battle had been fierce, but friendly, as always for American Idol in trying to keep it a family oriented show. But Kris came through to win this major competition. He's cute, down home, and has a voice that is not only appealing to the American Idol viewers, but will capture a fairly common audience of many.

Adam Lambert, while exotic with his vocals and high notes, struck a chord with many audience members. But when push comes to shove, most people want to see someone win who is like them: normal, average, and a success story. So here's to you Kris, and thank you for the upset. It's always great to see a good challenge come down to someone who we can relate to on a personal level.
