Kris Allen's 'How Sweet it Is' One of the Best of the Night

Motown Week for American Idol

Kris Allen's performance of "How Sweet It Is" on American Idol tonight was one of the best of the evening. He sang the song with great passion. His voice was clear and on key. He seemed very comfortable with Motown week. Smokey Robinson was the mentor this week and Kris asked advice on how to start out the song. Mister Robinson told him to do it just as he did it in practice. He was advised not to change a single thing. His arrangement of the song was interesting and a little different than any version of the song I had ever heard by other artists. By choosing to sing "How Sweet It Is" he reminded us of why he is in the top 10 of American Idol Season 8.

He started off with part of the chorus in a slower version which quickly swelled into the first verse. As he sang the verses, he was very engaging and comfortable. He was playing his guitar very well. The crowd was obviously enjoying the performance. The judges commented that he had made the song his own and did not just copy Marvin Gaye's rendition.

His vocal range was displayed nicely in this song. His final note was perfect as his voice soared to new heights. He was very smooth and confident. He connected well with viewers. His dancing was restricted by his guitar so he didn't move very well. It really didn't affect his performance. He seemed to talk to the audience with his eyes.

Kris Allen is very at ease on the stage. He seemed to have an effortless performance as though he had been doing this for a while. He is not stilted or stiff onstage. I would say he is very relaxed.

He should be pleased with his performance and the audience reaction to it. I will look forward to seeing Kris Allen next week.

Totally agree with your review of Kris. I really enjoy the tonal qualities of his voice. He should have a successful recording career ahead of him.
