Krispy Kreme Vs. Entenmanns Baked Goods

eiffelvu
In this article I'm comparing two baked goods available in every Grocery store; one is delicious and fresh tasting the other, the complete opposite...

I have to admit, that I've been fighting a weight issue most of my life, for the most part I've won the battle, just by a thread, thanks to Weight Watchers and eating mostly healthy foods, but once in a while there is a red light food that just grabs me when I see it in the grocery store and I generally listen to myself when I say no...but on certain occasions, like when a hurricane is coming or something really stressful is going on in my life, I give in...I don't know why I been feeling like I have lately, maybe it's the upcoming surgery I'm having next week, but I've been indulging...

What is it you are probably wondering....well, Donuts....not just any kind of donuts but the little white powdered ones they sell in bags or in boxes...the mini, teeny tiny ones...so lately I've been buying the the Krispy Kreme sugared donuts...I like the fact that they are little and I can eat 2 for under 200 cal and about 7 grams of fat...they also have a good shelf life if you close the bag tightly...One bag can last me a week so that's not too bad and they stay soft and fresh...Probably because of the preservatives added...These little donuts also come in Chocolate and plain as well as little Crullers, which I once tried and didn't care for, though my husband likes them

If you do eat the entire serving size, 4 donuts, then just double that count....now you are getting into the nitty gritty of high fat calories...it's a good thing that two satisfies my craving.

But yesterday there was a sale on Entenmanns PoP'ettes, Softee Powdered, it says on the box, "New & Improved", "Everyone's got a favorite", it says....and there was a dollar off coupon on the box, I just couldn't resist...so last night while watching TV I got the munchies and reached for my fresh new box of PoP'ettes, bit into one and .....What a disappointment. This little round powdered thing tasted like it had been made weeks ago, it wasn't that it was stale, on the contrary, they were somewhat soft to the bite but apparently had so many chemicals and preservatives added to keep them fresh that all you could taste was the artificial flavors....even the sugar didn't taste right.....maybe the chocolate is better, those come in the small size also.

It states on the side of the box that since 1898 Entenmanns name has stood for moist and delicious baked goods...well I'm sorry these donuts do not stand up to that claim ...I've had other Entenmanns baked goods that I really enjoy, the Raspberry twist for example and even the chocolate covered donuts but these little sugared ones don't even compare with the fresh taste you get in the Krispy Kreme bag of little powdered donut delights...

Both have about the same calorie count per serving, and the same fat content...the good news is that neither one of them has any trans-fats so they must be frying them in a good oil so kudos to them, but given my druthers, there is no doubt in my mind that I will reach for the Krispy Kreme the next time I'm in a Donut state of mind when a comfort food is needed...Or, God-Forbid, a hurricane approaches. When that happens I reach for the bigger donut!

Price wise, Entenmanns costs a bit more, at $3.29 for a box of 16, Krispy Kreme's are $2.39 for the same amount...with my dollar off coupon for the Entenmanns I was able to save a dime...certainly not worth it...

And let me just add, neither one can compare with the donut experience of actually going to the Krispy Kreme donut shop....That's another story all together...

I'm not too much of a doughnut person. The last time I had one was a year ago. LOL It was Krispy Creme and I wasn't impressed. I like the Bavarian cremes made fresh at Dunkin' Donuts. You can say I'm kind of old-fashioned though because I rarely eat anything that's pre-packaged, so ya might not want to take my word for it. LOL :-)

I like them both. But I think I'm traditional, so I'll go with Entenmann's.
