Kristen Bell: Why Elle Reminds Me of Veronica Mars

Tye
As with all big fans of the now cancelled Veronica Mars, I am desperate to see my favorite actors onscreen again. Moonlight has been able to feed my fetish for Jason Dohring by adding him to their lineup. Now, I am able to see my favorite small blond detective on another of my favorite shows.

This season of Heroes had a disappointingly slow start. With the Hiro is the 16th century storyline, and others, I couldn't quite remember why I once had an obsession for this show. However, I did have something to look forward to: Kristen Bell would soon be seen as a new hero, Elle.

One of the problems I have when beloved actors go to a different show is that I can't differentiate the new character they are playing from the old one. I am afraid that this is also true for Elle. In many different ways, she reminds me so much of Veronica.

Kristen Bell gives a very predictive performance as Elle. Her little quips, mannerisms, sarcasm, and vengeful spirit are the same as her previous character. Her Veronica Mars performance could be why the writers of Heroes wrote this particular character for Ms. Bell, but that could have been a mistake for both the show and the actress.

I can understand Heroes wanted to draw in the Veronica Mars fans with the addition of the star, but they should have at least made an effort to make the character stand out as something new. So often while talking about the show I use the names 'Elle' and 'Veronica' interchangeably; which means that Elle isn't all that memorable. So far, all I've seen is that Elle is Veronica Mars with firepower.

Elle Vs. Veronica

Veronica is a teenage detective that worked for her dad. Elle is a young lady with superpowers; that also works for her dad. Veronica likes to cover up her feelings with quick quips and smart remarks. Most of Elle's onscreen comments have been quick quips and smart remarks. Veronica does whatever it takes to get her revenge and justice, no matter how illegal it is. Elle does whatever it takes to complete her mission, even if it means killing people. Both Veronica and Elle have parental issues. And, they both needs to work on not getting caught while spying on people.

My hope for the rest of the season is that they would broaden Elle's character a little more to branch off the similarities to Veronica. This seems highly unlikely since there is only one more episode due to the writer's strike. However, the Elle character could be an interesting one if they decide to keep her when the show does come back.
