Kristi Cornwell is Missing: Blaming the Boyfriend, Douglas Davis
Douglas Davis Appears on the "Today Show" to Talk About Missing Girlfriend
Kristi Cornwell has been missing for eleven days from her home in Blairsville, Georgia, the victim of a suspected abduction. She went walking, as was her custom, on the evening of August 11. Kristi Cornwell took the route she normally took, walking along Jones Creek Road. She was talking on the cell phone with her boyfriend, Douglas Davis, who was in Atlanta. Davis said she became nervous when an approaching car neared her and stopped. The last thing Douglas Davis heard Kristi Cornwell say was a shouted, "Don't take me!"
And Kristi Cornwell has been missing ever since and authorities are running out of leads...
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI), who have searched the surrounding areas for over a week alongside nearly 20 various agencies, called off the ground search for Kristi Cornwell Wednesday. The GBI and local authorities will continue to keep the missing person search alive. The FBI joined the search for the missing woman Monday.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution noted that the only "significant" discovery in the past week had occurred when a man out mowing his lawn came across Kristi Cornwell's cell phone. It was found about three miles from where Kristi Cornwell is believed to have been abducted.
The abduction has not only the local populace but many amateur sleuths and casual observers trying to figure out what could have happened to the church attending college student. Her friends and family are baffled by the suddenness of it. Some speculated that perhaps it was someone who had held a grudge against her from her probation officer days. Some wondered if it might be someone she went to school with, someone she had somehow enraged within the past few weeks. And then there were those who took the easy route and simply pointed at the boyfriend.
Douglas Davis steered clear of the media until Thursday which probably helped fuel many of the comments and blogs that pointed the finger of blame in his direction. But Douglas Davis was in Atlanta, one might point out. And they would counter that that may not have been true, that he was on a cell phone, that even if it were true, he probably set her abduction up, knowing her routine as he did.
But Douglas Davis is a minister. So what, many will say. Preachers and priests commit incorrigible acts all the time.
No argument there.
And Douglas Davis said Kristi Cornwell's last words were, "Don't take me!" How contrived. Nobody says that, the blamers say. Obviously, Davis was making it all up.
And perhaps they are correct. But it is not known what else was said, and Douglas Davis is cooperating with the GBI in not revealing more about the last conversation he had with Kristi Cornwell.
Davis sat down with Ann Curry on the "Today Show" and, with tear-filled eyes, talked about his missing girlfriend. He told the "Today Show" host that she never talked about her job as a probation officer, nor mentioned anyone she had had trouble with while working as a probation officer. When Curry asked who might want to hurt Kristi Cornwell. "I have no idea," Davis said. "Our relationship was just about us. We were looking to a future together. In all of our conversations, many hours we would talk and shared of our lives, she never one time indicated there was anyone in her past who could do such a thing."
Douglas Davis praised the work of the authorities. But: "I believe that if we could just step up the search, that there are those out there right now who know the real truth of this story, who know where she is. Just pick up the phone, make the call and let us bring Kristi home."
His last few moments on the "Today Show" were spent imploring people to come forward and for anyone who might be holding his girlfriend to release her, "Let her go home."
Was the "Today Show" appearance of Douglas Davis the act of a calculating man? Does Douglas Davis know anything about the disappearance of Kristi Cornwell other than having the last conversation with her?
He certainly looked the part of a concerned man. But then, the naysayers will contend, a man capable of fooling a congregation and the town of Blairsville and devising such an elaborate abduction plan might just be capable of fooling Ann Curry and a national television audience.
Kristi Cornwell's story was told on a segment of "America's Most Wanted" Saturday evening.
Kristi Cornwell has a 15-year-old son and is a student at Dalton State College, pursuing a degree in medical technology.
Kristi Cornwell is described as a 5'5", 150-lb dark-haired white female. Authorities are asking that anyone with information related to her whereabouts to call the Union County Sheriff at 706-439-6066.

Post a CommentLie detector test results are not admissable in court because they are not accurate. However, the fact that an individual took the test or declined to take it is admissable.
Hi Jolie , I have been spending a lot of time keeping tabs on the Haleigh Cummings Affair...looks like the police are closing in..I have not read Saul Relatives article...do you have a link please. Misty and Ron said they passed lie detector tests in the beginning of haleighs disappearance things are looking very shaky for Misty now..I have no idea how the police work in the states and would they confirm if Davis had taken a lie det. The family are not saying much..we know very little about Kristi..was she fed up with her life? maybe Davis helped her to escape...he travels a lot he would know many places she could maybe keep a low profile...but would she do that to her son?...again how was her relationship with him? really we know very little about Kristi except that she is missing....
to Blairsville mom
The only information about Douglas Davis taking a lie detector test I can find online is him stating he did so.

"I assure you she was being abducted. I knew it for a fact," Davis said. "I volunteered for a polygraph and passed that. So, I think, undeniably, they knew I'm not guilty of anything here."

I have not found any official report with quotes from a named authority that states that or that he is not considered a suspect.
After sitting back and watching this whole thing and reading about the boyfriend and watching his interviews, I believe that GBI or local law enforcement should take a closer look at this guy. Maybe talk to locals and other people who know him. There is already alot of talk about this man in Blairsville and nothing good has come out of these discussions. There has not been one person I have talked to that have anything nice to say about Mr. Davis. What about a lie dector test....does he have the right to refuse this because there is no substantial evidence against him?
Ironside, Davis may have used another phone to place the call for help in order to keep his cell phone line free, in case Kristi tried to call him again. That would not be illogical. Even with call waiting, you wouldn't want to take a chance on missing a life or death call by getting someone else to hold or hang up on them and have something go wrong on picking up the call from Kristi and missing it. Did you read Saul Relative's August 23 article suggesting the possibility that Kristi may have staged this abduction in order to escape from her life of responsibility? It's very good.
Hi Jolie, There is another report where Davis said he spent the weekend report with Kristis parents or at least in Kristis parents house. He also said he walked the route with her Saturday evening the same route where she disappeared. The fact that he used another phone and not his own to ring the mother and tell her what happened and to call the police, I do not know does this sound OK..I do not want to crucify the guy but to me he is handling this all wrong. yes, he screams gerry mccann.
Little things that don't add up can lead to setting up alarm bells. Each thing on its own can seem reasonable or be explained away, but the more and more things seem to be a stretch, the easier it is to believe the explanations are untrue. Davis says two days before she disappears, he told her he would protect her with his life. He says two days after she disappears, he receives a book in the mail from her. He says Kristi's family did not know about his relationship with her for most of those six to seven weeks by design/intention. I'm beginning to get a very uneasy feeling about this guy.
to continue where my post was cut off:
Last sentence of post:
Maybe the police are still investigating Davis but are letting him think he's not a suspect to allow him to be off guard and continue to speak and perhaps provide additional clues as to the whereabouts of Ms. Davis or her body. Arresting him would likely just shut him up.
My teenage son thought nothing of a short-time boyfriend being on the phone at the time of the abduction. People in a new romance are frequently on the phone with each other for long periods of time.
Ironside, if a note did come with the book in the mail, the police could have it in their possession for handwriting analysis, to determine if it was indeed written by Kristi (or by Mr. Davis?). Good point about possibly holding the book to keep his hands busy to prevent them from giving tell-tale signs of lying.
One thing he shares in common with the McCanns (or at least Gerry McCann) is the love of the limelight. He seems to be enjoying being in front of the cameras and the focus of others' attention.
I asked my teenage son his opinion about the suspiciousness of the short-term boyfriend being on the phone exactly at the time when Kristi was abducted. He thought it would not be unusual for people in a new romance to be on the phone frequently with each other and did not think it was an odd coincidence.
Maybe the police are still investigating Davis but are letting him think he's not a suspect to allow him to be off guard and continue to speak and perhaps provide additiona
Thanks Ironside! I appreciate your help!
Regarding the book, here is what I find odd-
When he is talking about the book on the NG show, he says this was a book that Kristi had for awhile and thought it might help me blah blah blah.....which sounds like a book she already owned and gave him that very book. (just my interpretation) Then in another interview, he said she ordered it before she disappeared. So which is it? Why the change in story?
