Kristi Cornwell Missing Stirs Up Quiet Town of Blairsville, Georgia

Not Much to Go On, Blairsville and Georgia Authorities Search for Missing Woman

Saul Relative
Blairsville, Georgia. Home of the annual Sorghum Festival and Kristi Cornwell. Not much going on in Blairsville, Georgia, most of the time, situated as it is off the Chattahoochee National Forest, but it has been a beehive of activity since Kristi Cornwell went missing last week. According to ABC News, the 38-year-old mother seems to have been taking a walk last Tuesday night, a fairly routine outing for her, when she was abducted right off the side of the county road. Kristi Cornwell was on her cell phone at the time, talking to her boyfriend, who had made a trip to Atlanta that day. The boyfriend said she became nervous because an approaching car had stopped near her. Then she screamed, "Don't take me!" And then nothing...

Since then, more than 100 personnel from 15 different agencies have scoured the rural northern Georgia county (Union) as well as the small town of Blairsville (population less than 700 in 2000) searching for Kristi Cornwell. Although the boyfriend, Douglas Davis, has not spoken with reporters, he has cooperated with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI).

Little is known about the possible abduction. Some articles known to have belonged to Kristi Cornwell were found along the county road where she was last known to have been. Her cell phone was found three miles from where the point of abduction supposedly occurred. But authorities aren't disclosing too many details and little is known about the progress -- or if there is any progress -- in the investigation.

The GBI are currently looking for two vehicles that were seen driving along the county road that night -- a large-style white SUV and a tan or gold subcompact car, possibly a Toyota or Nissan. Both of those vehicles were reported as unfamiliar to the area.

Officials are also looking into motive. Kristi Cornwell at one time worked as a probation officer. Enrolled at Dalton State College, Cornwell was taking classes in medical laboratory technology.

Family members report that Douglas Davis, the boyfriend, is not a suspect or a person of interest.

And although law enforcement are not saying so publicly, they also are looking into the possibility that the abduction was staged. Back in May, Bonnie Sweeten staged an elaborate abduction in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Calling from a cell phone, Bonnie Sweeten dialed 911 and told a dispatcher that she'd been in an accident. A few minutes later, while Philadelphia Police arrived at the scene of the supposed accident and found nothing, Bonnie Sweeten made six more calls, detailing how she was abducted, thrown into the back of the black Cadillac that hit her (in the aforementioned accident) and her daughter forced into the back of Sweeten's vehicle.

After a massive manhunt quick police work, Sweeten was discovered on surveillance footage at the airport. She was subsequently found in Orlando, Florida, enjoying herself (with her daughter) at Disney World. She was arrested and taken back to Philadelphia and later charged with making false reports and identity theft.

But Kristi Cornwell's missing person case may be a crime with a far more sinister motive or intent. The GBI and local law enforcement agencies are asking that anyone with information regarding Cornwell's whereabouts to contact the Union County Sheriff's Department at 706-439-6066.

You are absolutely correct, samantha. And here's the thing: we don't know she was abducted at all, do we? What if it was a ruse? What if she just wanted to disappear? It's not like she's not smart enough to remaker herself...

Okay, here we go again with my long post that was not posted yesterday (condensed today).

[1] Kristi had a degree in criminal science, had hands on firearm education, took (and some say taught) self defense classes, worked in the criminal justice system at a prison and was a probation officer .... my question; with all this background education why in the world was she out at dark (or almost dark)on an isolated road with no self protection whatsoever?

    (2) A poster above said that she posted on Christian internet dating sites .... even if it was a supposedly Christian site, people can say they are anything on the internet (Christian, etc.) and it can be a ballfaced lie such as child molesters that invade teen and children sites.

I sincerely hope the FBI confiscates Kristi's computer hard drive and persuses all sites she has frequented as well as all her emails .... her computer could give the most important clues that will solve this crime.

Right you are, Glenn, and thanks for the update. Information is always the key in these cases. Knowing just how much info to give to the public is crucial.

Just saw an interview on Fox News with Kristi's BF: Douglas Davis. He seems to be a very religous person of high character and integrity. Said that he volunteered and passed a polygraph. The family's primary intent is to keep her case in the news. I salute them for this, considering the tragedy they are enduring. Mr Davis said that he was optimistic that she was alive and that she was a fighter. Where have I heard that victim description before?

When asked about the cell phone conversation when Kristi was abducted, Mr. Davis, replied that LE has muzzeled him, on revealing the full content due to the ongoing investigation. Mr. Davis's silence, when asked about the cell phone call, speaks volumes as to the amount of info gained.

Sure hope LE is not keeping pertinent info close to their vest, as was the antiquated strategy used in the Meredith Hope Emerson, investigation.
Even the slightest bit of info could be the catalyst that prompts a tip to solve the case: ie; number of voices

Blairsville%27s population is a lot more than 700. Even in 2000. I moved here in 1995 and the populations was over 30%2C000 then. We are still a small town%2C but it isn%27t as backwookds as this article makes it out to be. I live less than 2 minutes from where she was taken. It is very scary%2C but has shown us all that bad things happen all over%21 God be with you Kristi%21

I also would suggest to the investigators to check all unoccupied residences as the entire area is a second home location for many people and to tell those people in those developments to be on the lookout for suspicious activities at any of the unoccupied dwellings.

She had to of known who and or what this perp was for he or she to get in close enough to asault her. I dont think she was expecting to be taken, but she would have had to of been incapacitated some way or another instantly. How sad.

They said on Nancy Grace show that the woman TAUGHT self-defense classes....so an EX husband or boyfriend would know that. They might have pointed a gun in her face, and so she said, Please don't take me.
