Kristin Chenoweth: The Best Songs Off of "Some Lessons Learned"

Wes Laurie
If you think Kristin Chenoweth's bubbly personality and over-the-top Broadway vocals might be too much for you, then perhaps you will be surprised by the content of her album "Some Lessons Learned." She spins her brand of song in a way that fits comfortably into the market without being as annoying as many competitors.

The best song on the album is "Wrecked." My song by song thoughts are below.

"I Was Here": An odd jangle of an inspirational country song about wanting to leave a mark on the world. I find it odd just because I am more familiar with Kristin Chenoweth's vocals in the realms of Broadway. Little kids chime in with some chorus at one point and this song is a great one for younger folks to tap into I think.

"I Want Somebody (Bitch About)": A pretty cute, pop sing along. Romantic comedies always sell, but need to have different creative takes and changes here and there to woo the audience, this song is like that, enough of a formula tweak to be woo worthy.

"Fathers and Daughters":
Saptastic and I don't mean that as a play on the word fantastic, I mean that as a play on the word craptastic.

"What Would Dolly Do":
A short burst of personality, love it or hate it. I personally think it's cute, but did not expand far enough or go anywhere much.

"God And Me": Boring having tea and asking God questions country song.

"Change": This semi-broadway feel style ballad is what I expected to find on the album. I'm not really a winner by finding it though, she does well, just not my taste beyond random background sound.

"What More Do You Want": Up-tempo rich girl has everything but wants love country song that has attitude aplenty. You can feel the fun being had giggle right out through her vocals.

"Wrecked": "I want to be the one that wrecks you, and messes you up." Lyrically awesome! This is a great song that I wish was in a harder rock package, but enjoyable for its content all the same. Best song on the album by far this far in. I'd download it.

"I Didn't": Spunky country that once again spins with creativity. Good stuff about the differences of opinion between herself and a guy she probably kicked to the curb.

"Borrowed Angels": Weepy sap country with strings ballad, but with Hallmark content about angels I don't find it worth connecting to.

"What If We Never": Pop country ballad that I can do without, but it might punch the ticket to a romance for many.

"Mine To Love": I can't really find fault with it, maybe a guilty pleasure worthy listen for my hard rock loving self, but not going to get pumped out as often as Britney Spears "Hit Me Baby One More Time." yeah! Pop/ country love gone kind of song, some intelligent lyrics, which is the draw for me I suppose, as most similar music lacks that.

"Lessons Learned": A motivational type of pop / country song about lessons learned, scars, the past, all of that. She handles it all well has both vocally and with personality set herself aside from other acts that would have made the song generic.
