KRS-ONE Signs to Duck Down Records

"The TEACHA" is Back in Full Effect

Now, if you are truly a music historian, you know that KRS-ONE is a permanent fixture and regarded as a "Professor of Hip Hop Science." Back in the day it was all about Boogie Down Productions and their anthem "The Bridge Is Over." I can't even say those words without hearing the lyrics and beats in my head. Heck I am thinking about the classic video now shot over by "The Bridge."

Well, with all the changes that have occurred in Hip Hop, it was nice to receive news that KRS-ONE is back in full effect and has signed with another industry trailblazer, Duckdown Records.

According to the available information, "KRS-ONE decided it would make the most sense to combine forces with Buckshot, of Black Moon and record a new album on Duck Down Records." The label information further noted that "Buckshot shares similar philosophies as KRS-ONE, one of which is the notion of the "Stop the Violence Movement," which KRS-ONE is actively involved with."

According to Dru-Ha, Co-President at Duck Down, "KRS has a message in his lyrics, a gladiator performer who reps the culture and posses all the qualities that an MC should embody: Meaningful lyrics, mastery of the flow, intense creativity and a ferocious live show. I know how much respect Buck has for KRS, so I can only imagine how this will elevate his game. It's Old School to those that don't keep up with the current works and movements but to me, I would call it Now School ."

We also understand that, three tracks have already been recorded, and according to label accounts "the chemistry between the two artists is very natural." About his collaboration with KRS-ONE, Buckshot described the work as"CONFLOSATION, even when KRS ONE is flowing he's having a conversation with his audience. This collaboration with KRS-ONE is going to be an album full of Hip-Hop conversation, ranging from New World Order, to socially conscious topics such as unemployment, poverty, and politics. At the same time, we will speak to the streets, as that is what I'm known to do. It's a dream to be able to work with KRS-ONE. Before I even began rapping that is who I checked for. I kept the "Blue Print" album on me at all times. That is all I listened to for an entire summer."

I don't know about you, but as a true lover of historical Hip-Hop, I can't wait to put my hands on the finished product, which is due out later this year.

I am even older school. : ? I am sure my son "a true lover of historical Hip-Hop" will be wanting this one. KRS was one of his favorites, "back in the day". He and my oldest daughter often talk about hip hop going down hill and they will sure to like Now School.

I've seen Blastmaster Kris six times now, the first time being way back in 1993. He is an institution, but I don't need to say that really - KRS will tell us himself :-)

    Hey Saba!

Nice to hear that "old school" is still being given respect in the industry. I'm a KRS-ONE fan, so this is indeed good news. Keep them coming! "The G-man"
