Krusteaz Cracked Wheat Bread Mix - Food Review

Lisa Riggs
I have long been a fan of the line of Krusteaz bread mixes. They are affordable, bake up beautifully in a bread making machine and taste delicious. While food shopping recently and stocking up on my usual favorites, I spotted their Cracked Wheat Bread Mix. My husband has always preferred wheat bread over any other flavor, so I was fairly confident that this product would be a wise purchase. Here is what i discovered about this bread mix.

As with the other products in the line, the front of the packaging depicts a very tasty looking loaf of bread. The nutritional information is printed on the side and the instructions for several different baking instructions are on the back. Not only can this bread mix produce a nice sized loaf of bread, it can also be used to make rolls or bread sticks. I always use my bread machine to bake up loaves of bread using these mixes, so this is the method I will discuss.

After combining one cup of water at room temperature, the full box of bread mix and the yeast packet in the machine, I adjusted the settings to bake the bread on a medium dark level in a one and a half pound weight. I then let the machine do it's work and simply enjoyed the aroma of a fresh loaf of bread baking in my kitchen.

One slice of bread from Krusteaz Cracked Wheat mix contains one hundred and fifty calories. There is a scant two grams of Fat per slice, with absolutely no Saturated or Trans Fat. That is very good news for those of us who love to indulge in bread, but are mindful of our fat intake as well. There is also no Cholesterol in this product, which is another plus. Each slice contains two hundred and seventy milligrams of Sodium and twenty eight grams of Total Carbohydrate. There is also one gram of Dietary Fiber, three grams of Sugar and four grams of Protein. This bread is not a source of Vitamin A, Vitamin C or Calcium. However, it does contain six percent of the daily recommended value of Iron.

When I served the finished product at dinner that evening, I realized that I had found my favorite mix in this line. The bread was so flavorful, not even a small pat of butter was needed to enhance the taste. Each slice was soft on the inside with a nice crispy crust and absolutely jam packed with that great wheat flavor. I used the leftovers the next morning to make my girls toast with jam for breakfast and then enjoyed the remaining two slices in my midday sandwich. Krusteaz Cracked Wheat Bread Mix is a stellar product within a very quality line of baking mixes. I definitely plan to put this variety at the top of my future shopping lists.

Great review! I'm always looking for easy mixes to use in my bread machine. They usually never taste great, so I go back to measuring everything out the old fashion way. I will give this one a try. Thanks!
