Kua 'Aina Sandwich in Haleiwa, Hawaii: Restaurant Review

With the winter season comes some fabulous surfing conditions (for professional surfers) at Oahu's North Shore. Beach towns like Haleiwa pack with surfers and spectators as the waves reach awesome heights. While the North Shore doesn't offer as many dining opportunities as Waikiki, it does have its charming spots. Among them is Kua 'Aina Sandwich, which boasts some of the best burgers on the island of Oahu. Here is a restaurant review of Kua 'Aina Sandwich in Haleiwa, Hawaii.

Located at 160 Kamehameha Highway in Haleiwa, Kua 'Aina Sandwich is a casual counter-service restaurant that is almost always packed with diners. No need to change out of those bathing suits to enjoy Kua 'Aina's large, juicy burgers. The atmosphere is pure beach town, the service is fast and friendly, and if you find yourself waiting on a rather large line, no worries - I guarantee your burgers will be well worth the wait. And keep in mind, you're in Hawaii, which means you are now on turtle-time.

If you choose, the burgers at Kua 'Aina Sandwich will be topped with heaps of bacon, cheese, salsa and pineapple. (Keep in mind, you are not too far from the famous Dole Plantation). However you choose to have your burger prepared, you are certain to be well satisfied. And be sure to save room for Kua 'Aina Sandwich's crispy shoe-string french fries. They, too, are some of the best fries on the island.

Kua 'Aina Sandwich is the perfect place to stop for lunch. But I do highly recommend you go early or late, to avoid the large lunch crowds. Lunching at Kua 'Aina Sandwich is generally quick and inexpensive, so you can take a brief time out from the beach and get right back to the action.

One caveat is that Kua 'Aina Sandwich does not accept credit cards. Many people learn that the hard way, usually after spending some time on line. So be sure to bring cash. There are ATM machines across the street.

If you are heading to the movies at the Ward Center in Honolulu, you can pay a visit to Kua 'Aina Sandwich shop there, too. The address is 1116 Auahi Street in Ala Moana. But, personally, I find the Haleiwa location a whole lot better.
