Uncut Gemstones
These jewelry making techniques developed at an era obscured by the mists of time. The gems used are often some of the hardest, Ruby, Sapphire and Diamond, and had to be set in the jewelry in their uncut state. This required a setting that was flexible enough to work with essentially any shape found in nature.
Kundan (meaning 'pure gold') was the method of creating small cups of malleable, thin gold foil, filling them with a natural resin called 'lac' and then pressing the gemstone into the resin. The edges of the gold cup were gently pressed around the gemstone and when the lac dried the gem was firmly set in the jewelry.
Stained Glass Enamel Effect
Meena comes from MeenaKira which means the art of enameling. To give the Kundan jewelry a more refined and finished look the backs of these ornate necklaces, earrings and bracelets are decorated in beautiful enameled colors. This blend of magnificent colors gives the back of the jewelry a stained glass effect.
Kundan Meena jewelry gives the best of both worlds with the sparkling gemstones and pure gold dazzling the eye while the lovely enameled surface feels smooth and comfortable against the skin.
The enchanting colors and luxurious jewelry designs have made Kundan Meena jewelry a tradition for the bride at her wedding. The elaborate elegance creates a stunning effect. For examples of dazzling Kundan Meena jewelry, wedding attire and exotic make-up view the videos here;

Do the Polki
The increasing popularity of Kundan Meena jewelry along with the abundant use of gems in each piece brought about the frequent use of imitation gemstones. With the introduction of inexpensive, high quality synthetic gems and modern setting techniques, it is possible to create a jewelry ensemble that is truly royal in its effect.
The Kundan Meena jewelry that has continued to use genuine gemstones, especially Diamonds, has come to be known as Polki.
Modern Kundan Meena Jewelry
The look of Kundan Meena jewelry is still one of the most popular and unique fashion jewelry styles, though the actual manufacturing methods are giving way to the less time consuming modern jewelry making techniques.
These new methods will only allow a further popularization of the Kundan Meena jewelry style by lowering the cost of finished jewelry. The name will remain to remind us of just how long this unique style of fashion jewelry has been with us.
