He would stay in the game playing shortstop and would double in the 9th inning to record his first hit with the Mets.

Kurt Abbott would play in 79 regular season games for the Mets in 2000, 39 at shortstop, 23 at second base, 2 at third base, 4 in the outfield in helping the Mets reach the World Series for the first time since 1986. He hit .217 with 6 home runs and 12 RBI's.

Kurt Abbott wore number 20 with the Mets.

He signed as a free agent with the Atlanta Braves following the 2000 season, playing one more season before retiring.
