Kurt Busch Has Led Almost 5 Times as Many Laps as Roush-Fenway Racing

Jacob Horn
I did a short blog last week regarding how many people have led more laps than Carl Edwards this year. I know that at least a few people really enjoyed the stats so I thought I would try to make this a weekly blog regarding interesting stats that pertain to laps lead. Just like last week, the stats come from ESPN's Stock Car Challenge Game. Here we go.

Carl Edwards led a total of zero (0) laps at Michigan so the list I put out last week still stands regarding who has led more laps than Carl Edwards this year. Let's touch on a few highlights of that list. Regan Smith, Michael Waltrip, Dave Blaney, David Gilliland, Michael McDowell, and Robby Gordon have all led 3 or more laps this year. Edwards has led a total of 2. If you have read my earlier blogs you know that I am not a Carl Edwards hater. I am actually a Ford guy who but these stats are just to irrestible.

Ryan Newman has led 20 laps this year. Scott Speed has led 21 and Sam Hornish Jr. has led 22.

Roush-Fenway has led a total of 162 laps this year (Biffle-125, Kenseth-35, Edwards-2). Juan Pablo Montoya (172) and Kasey Kahne (184) have leds more laps individually than Roush-Fenway has as a team. Denny Hamlin, Jimmie Johnson, Kyle Busch, Jeff Gordon, and Kurt Busch have each led 500+ laps individually.

Kurt Busch has led almost 5 times as many laps as Roush-Fenway combined. Busch- 786. Roush-Fenway- 162. 786/162= 4.85

Laps led by team: Hendrick (1379), Gibbs (1197), Childress (524), Roush-Fenway (162). Please note that Hendrick stats do include laps led by Dale Jr. despite the fact that Dale Jr. has led 26 more laps than Mark Martin this year. (Jr.- 68, Martin- 42)

Kasey Kahne has led 184 laps compared to Edwards 2 but Edwards has 235 more points than Kahne.

Jeff Gordon has led 712 laps compared to Edwards 2 but only leads Edwards by 131 points in the standings.

Matt Kenseth has led 35 laps this year but has more points than Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson who have led 712 laps and 625 laps respectively.

Stupid but fun:

Kurt Busch has led 393 times the numbers of laps than Carl Edwards this year.

Brad Keselowski has led a total of 31 laps compared to Edwards 2 but Edwards has 356 more points than Keselowski.

Sam Hornish Jr. has led 11 times the number of laps than Carl Edwards this year.

Despite racing in only 3 points races Michael Waltrip has led twice the number of laps as Carl Edwards this year.

Finally, Joe Nemechek has led as many laps as Carl Edwards this year.

Final note: I promise I am not a Carl Edwards hater. I have a relative interest in seeing Ford stock go up (see previous blogs) and while performance in a NASCAR race is not a big contributer to that it sure would not hurt. I think Carl Edwards is a pretty good guy and despite only leading 2 laps he is still very much in the thick of things. Until he has a total of more than 2 laps these stats are going to be fun to run each week. Ryan Newman is not to far in front of Edwards at 20 laps so he may be the next lucky one to experience the wrath of the stats. Take care everybody and have a good week.

(Please point out any discrepancies that you find in my stats. I am not perfect and I may have misread or done some bad calcularing although I highly doubt it.)
